I saw Dinosaur Jr. last night and they were great. J Mascis has a fabulous purple metal flake Tele and it destroys.
He said something about one song being from "the 7" version on Sub Pop" and a second drummer + dude with a Danelectro sitar came out. That was cool.

Hell yeah! North American tour announced. Toronto on June 20 at Lee's Palace. Hopefully grabbing tickets when they go on sale Friday!doommeow wrote:MrNovember wrote:I'm only seeing dates for Europe shows; I really hope they do a North American tour and I really hope Ben Frost comes along for it
Supposedly May or later, but definitely will be a N American run.
Surprised there isn't an Reykjavik stop with Frost working with the band. I'm always up for excuses to go to iceland.
Also, I agree that it's weird there's no Iceland dates, but I heard Ben Frost has moved back to Australia. Still I'm with you, always want an excuse to head to Iceland. Really hope I can make it to Airwaves one year

Excited to see the new era of Swans, haven't listened to the latest record though.
In the next month: Shellac, Conan, Orange Goblin, Discharge, Conan (again!) opening for Max & Iggor Cavalera doing Beneath the Remains and Arise-era Sep stuff.
The thought of which is not turning me into a 12-year-old in the slightest.
Obviously.

Re: Live Acts You're Most Looking Forward To
Just saw MONO, & I am writing this from the afterlife. I was struggling to survive throughout the concert, but in the end I must admit defeat. When Taka jumped on the Fab Tone in Halcyon, my face melted. As my face lay on the ground, the rest of me saw them perform Ashes in the Snow. At the end of that they made five minutes of the probably loudest sound I have heard in my life, at which point I died. As I lay dead—my fellow concert-goers laying strewn around me as well—they came back to play COM(?), followed by another few minutes of sheer noise. Today was a proud day in Fab Tone history. I am honoured to have given my life to such a worthy purpose.
Go see this band live.

I've never been tremendously impressed by them live
But I'm willing to give them another chance I think. I've only seen them in festival settings where I'm more interested in other stuff. Glad you enjoyed it

Re: Live Acts You're Most Looking Forward To
Last week I saw Stefano Pilia performing a solo set - he’s an experimental guitarist that is/has been member of some of the most interesting projects in Italy (and not) in the last 10?years (Zu, David Tibet/Current 93, Afterhours, Massimo Volume etc etc).
He opened the set with an extremely deconstructed succession of pulsating sounds, coming from both the guitar and the modules continuously moving knobs and triggering different pedals for few seconds to build a randomized sequence. I was blown away by how the sounds moved in the stereo realm, it was really interesting. After this part he performed a guitar/solo piece with a violin bow, another heavily modified guitar/samples/electronics piece, and a more “standard” composition (where standard means “not totally deconstructed”).
Truly an inspiring set, it surely left a big impression on me, and also made me think confident to proceed with the writing approach I adopted in the past few months.
Also, finally a saw someone using in a live situation a couple of those ILF-approved looper pedals. (gonna post a pic in the dedicated thread)

Got the tickets to Swans, but it's the day after my fiancee's birthday and it's not exactly her prefered music, so not entirely sure if I'll be able to go. Depends what else we have planned that weekend.
I also just grabbed tickets to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds on Sept 29 in Toronto!

Woooooo!
I should probably get a ticket to the Manchester show even if it is in the arena which I hate. They're just always really good every time I see them...
