Do you have any DAW/software plugins of an 808 to compare to the RD-8? I use Ableton's 808 drum plugin but would like to know how the RD-8 compares to software emulations of the 80801010111 wrote:Finally got my RD-8 today! It’s a surprisingly nice sounding machine. It certainly is big, but it’s not super heavy. Having all the full size everything is really satisfying. I need to play around with running some of the individual outs through some fuzzzzz.
The most surprising thing for me was the kick. It actually lived up to the hype. The sustainer and overall mix are really handy elements, and it’s a fun machine to play as opposed to setting it up to just run through your sequence. I think I might love the RD-8.
I know I’m in the honeymoon period, but where there was such a long period between ordering this and receiving this I’d actually talked myself out of this thing. So, having it win me over feels like a good sign. The UI isn’t super hard to navigate, and the sounds are phenomenal and surprisingly tweakable. It’s easy to hear why the original was used on nearly everything, and it sort of feels like it “completes” my setup in a weird way.

Good news, 01010111! Heavily considering the RD-8. Haven't tried an original or researched it too much, but of course I know the sound... Wondering how it is with odd meters though, can it do 3/4 and such? That (and just.. money) is the main concern for me.

Re: All these Behringer synths
If it's like a TR-808 then the step sequencer works by setting tempo, number of steps, and step length (1/4, 1/8th, 1/16th, 1/8th triplet, etc). So for 3/4 you'd set it to something like 12 steps, 1/16th notes; or 9 steps, 1/8th note triplets etc etc. If you're using it as a sound module and the sequencer is in your computer or external sampler then I doubt the behringer box really gives a shit about the time signature, it's just going "bloop" when the MIDI based god tells it to "bloop"frodog wrote:Good news, 01010111! Cool cool, I can work with that. No MIDI, this would be used as a a stand-alone based god of rhythm in my setup.

Sorry, I don’t use any DAW. I know there are some videos of people comparing it with the original:Faldoe wrote: Do you have any DAW/software plugins of an 808 to compare to the RD-8? I use Ableton's 808 drum plugin but would like to know how the RD-8 compares to software emulations of the 808

I’m pretty sure you can set up polyrhythms and whatnot, but I’ll see how hard it is to do that tonight. From what I understand, the workflow is pretty different from the original tr-808.mcatano wrote:If it's like a TR-808 then the step sequencer works by setting tempo, number of steps, and step length (1/4, 1/8th, 1/16th, 1/8th triplet, etc). update: it’s very easy to set up polyrhythms

As someone that’s in need of such a thing but also new to all this, how’s that work? The 8 just acts as a master clock? Or can each drum output be used to drive different devices/modules?frodog wrote:a stand-alone based god of rhythm in my setup.

If you have something that can accept trigger inputs, you could potentially use some of the drum outs to trigger/sync other devices. It makes me want to get a dsd-2/3 again...

Jesus Dick... the TD-3 is only $150... fuq... just wait for a coupon at 20% -> $120. Or my rule of thumb with synths... wait one year and it will be 66% of retail so $99.
Or wait long enough and these will be in 'Microbrute' territory and people will practically be giving them away.

Re: All these Behringer synths
I will never grow tired of saying this... Matthew Tyas is the most criminally underrated music youtuber. With all the videos he released in Noisevember... he is probably one of the preeminent Behringer Synth experts at this point. There are 10 videos in Noisevember along utilizing the new Behringer synths. There are more before that.
EDIT: Actually, there are more in Noisevember... he just didn't put them in the titles.
Example: Drumbrute impact is the only device in the title but he's using a Neutron as well.

Different prospect than a fairly rote Minimoog clone (which frankly I’m amazed I ducked the summer sales on, despite B misgivings)?
