Drum Machines & Pedals
Howdy!
It's quite possible this thread has already been started before but my band has been messing around with drum machines + effects quite a bit recently. I've found great success using an ODB-3 & TAFM. Just wanted to see what other folks are using to coax gnarly drum machine sounds/looking for recommendations. I was thinking about adding some reverb/delay into the mix. I'm open to pretty much anything as its been a barrel of fun/really inspiring.
Thanks for your time!

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
I fuckin love using pedals with my drum machines. Favs are: SSBS Mini, Hexe Bitcrusher, Digdugdiy purple rain deluxe, Cooper gen loss, etc. Pretty much anything that does crush/compression/dirt.

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
There are a few of these threads, but Google isn't letting me view the one, that I think had an itemized list.
multi-head delays (Catalinbread Echorec, Keeley Echoes V1, Strymon Volante, Meris Polymoon)
granular delays (Chase Bliss MOOD, Red Panda Particle, Dwarfcraft Grazer)
ring mods (with a little extra work)
pitch/harmonizers (Meris Hedra)
flanger (EQD Pyramids)
nearly any newer reverb pedal should sound decent at a low mix around 9:00 (higher wet mix the better the reverb)
I haven't used the Alexander Marshmallow with drum machines yet, but it sounds good in demos.

OMG all of the above and more...
This is like... one of my favorite things for 'making sounds'... or really 2 do... in life... (Below is safe 4 work... just saving space)
Best of luck on your journey. It may go nowhere but that's kind of the point. I'm excited 4 u.
EDIT/ADDED: Very important -> Filters (Multimode) and Sample and Hold. VERY IMPORTANT. You're going to do good.

Oscillating fuzzes are great with drum machines. The extreme dynamics drum machines have interact with the oscillations in fun ways. My go to oscillating fuzz is the wolf computer

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
For straight typical drum sounds, ODB-3 is THE one; the blend control, the simple but effective EQ, the right amount of gain. Only downside is being mono, but they're cheap enough to not get 2, or 4, or 16, each for your individual part adjusting it accordingly.
Also, stereo flange works amazing, I used a Zoom MS70CDR for this and the right amount of it can add to your drum track some breathing space for the rest of your instruments to do something "interesting" without ending up with a pile of mud in the mix.
I also liked what a Turbo Rat did to an old SR16, instant Godflesh (after layering the shit out of each part of course).
For fucking around, well, anything lol
My favorite is delay (having a random lfo adjusting delay time).
Also an octave down in the kicks is yummy.
And of course reverb, because reverb.

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
As well as the obvious fuzz, delay and reverb, all of which I do a lot, I've got great results with sampler style pedals and the Superego. Freezing drum hits can sound amazing and auto mode is particularly cool on drums for a very unnatural reverb sound

I'm a big fan of the pretty years, incinerator and fabrikat on drums because shit just get crazy. I also run mine right now through a merc7 and volante with satisfying results.

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
To add to what's already been mentioned, CBA MOOD is awesome with drums for adding rhythmic texture to the background of a beat and can act as a reverb/delay/pitch shift delay as well.

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
The true secret I have about pedals and drum machines lies within the Malekko Charlie Foxtrot. It can turn a simple pattern into an ever-evolving semi-randomized I.D.M.-like insta-jam.
I have a second secret! The JoMoX M-Resonator (not technically a pedal, I know) can give drum machines so much beef you feel as though you have purchased the entire cow.
Lastly, I have recently begun experimenting with drum machines and the Red Panda Tensor. Early results indicate excellent smear but I don't understand how the pedal works yet.

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
Great timing on this thread, just last weekend I set up my Drumbrute with a Moog Drive and Delay. I don't add much gain with the Drive, mostly using the filter to get vivid colors. Would absolutely love to fuck with a Red Panda Tensor on it.
My favorite example of what a flanger can do to a drum machine:

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
Sorry for the extra post but I forgot to mention the Kaoss Pad 3, possibly the greatest effects machine for drum machines ever made. The grain modes glitch so good. I also prefer the dub delay - so wicked. It's easy to switch between FX with lightning speed to keep your beat crazed forever.

Re: Drum Machines & Pedals
Also one of my favorite things. These days I end up doing long takes and then cutting them up for sampler food.
BONUS if your drum machine has individual outputs.
