Analog Poly synths
So I think this is my next thing. Was looking at some DSI stuff. There is a Novation Peak near me and I'm considering that. I'm thinking if I'm gonna do it I'm gonna drop that coin to reflect the quality. I considered the Minilogue XD but not sure if that is what I'm looking for.
Pads. Emulation of other stuff - bells? Is that more likely with something that also has FM? Kind of a noob as to what I an analog poly synth can offer other than polyphony.

Get a Minilogue XD. Like the Minilogue, it's a good synth to learn on. It has effects so you won't need to pair it with pedals or plugins to get the sounds you want. It has good resale value if you discover you need something with more capabilities. The sound is not lower quality than DSI stuff, just different.

Re: Analog Poly synths
Had a Minilogue XD for a few weeks and it sounds unbelievable amazing for those Johann Johannsson sounds, but I have the feeling it will become that obnoxious Ambient synth in the near future, still pretty amazing for the price

Yeah. I feel Tremolo’s point.
This won’t be my first synth. Just trying to figure out what the next step is in this world versus the very popular and affordable mono synths that are out there now.

@Trem - If I could do it again... I'd probably just get that synth and another (the Hydrasynth) and call it a day.
@Faldoe - If you want bells... I'm of the opinion the digital stuff sounds the best (FM and Wavetable).
I have too many synths... my two favorites at the moment are the MS-2000R and the Blofeld (thanks Spacelord). The magic of those two (besides lots of mod possibilities) is they're popping up for around $300 each now. That's a lot of synth for that little money. I'd probably be happy with just those and use apps with a very knobby midi controller and be happy. I'm saying Hydra again cause it's like a modern day ensoniq with a pretty knobby interface. My buddy is going to do the Hydra + Medusa combo (cause they're getting cheap) and I really like where his head is at.
@Faldoe - Or per the Behringer thread... Pro One and OB-XA clone when that comes out?

I know it's a dirty word, but Behringer DeepMind 12.
Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
Absolutely amazing for the $$$ and otherwise.
I couple mine with a Roland System 1 (which is a 4-voice "analog" (DSP emulator) thing with hands on control that's amazing good.

Re: Analog Poly synths
The only reason to get analog would be to get that “analog” sound. For everything else, I’d get the Hydrasynth. It’s going to give you more flexibility/sonic exploration than anything else in that price range.
If you want analog, rfurtkamp’s right. For the money, the Deepmind sounds amazing. It’s not as punchy as DSI stuff, but if you want beautiful pads and chords it’s hard to do better than the Deepmind.

Someone had a DM12 near me for $300 on CList a week or so ago. I responded but missed it. I would snag for for the right price.
I will check out the Hydrasynth.
I had a MS2000r years ago and I’ve seen the Biofeld stuff pop up on Craigslist.

I'm agreeing with Willy but again, the Hydrasynth is in a different budget. I don't know... with synths anymore, they all have their strengths and everything... you're probably creative and intuitive enough to conjure a lot of what you want out of whatever architecture you're leaning towards. You don't need 'everything' (and the first rule of synths is "they're not good at everything"). My mind gravitates towards my stupid set up because again, a Blofeld and MS-2000r for $300 a pop.
I feel like if I started from scratch my set up would just be totally dependent of what was on sale that week. I also encourage people to think that those behringer synths go for $50 more than a new volca... lot of synth to be had for what isn't a lot more money. I have an MS-20 mini but... Jesus that K2 sounds phenomenal!
Please excuse the rant.
EDIT: Neglected to mention I midi chain stuff together.

Re: Analog Poly synths
There's desktops for the DM6 and DM12, yes. It's just a 49 key, which is a happy medium for the number of voices and options IMO.

Will they price match post-sale? I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a better deal to be had come Black Friday.Faldoe wrote:I said fuck it and ordered a Deepmind 12 desktop from Sweetwater.

Re: Analog Poly synths
I had an original minilogue and really didn't love it. Found tuning to be finicky and just wasn't in love with the UI.
