Extension Cab Planning

I have a peavey classic 20 combo (110) and I’m looking at options for an extension cab.

I need the impedance to be 16 ohms for the extension cab OR 8 ohms if I unplug the combo speaker

Anyone ever run a 212 extension cab on a 110 combo? The peavey 112ce looks cool, but it’s like four inches wider than the combo so the jury’s our on the aesthetic with that.

What do i do for an extension cab? The goal is louder and not so boxy sounding.

I have a Blackheart Little Giant 5 watt combo. It sounded fine. Then I added an extension cab and it sounds MASSIVE.

For clarity's sake, the speaker in the combo is 16 ohm. I am unplugging the "16 ohm" output on the back of the amp, and using the two "8 ohm" outs for plugging it to two cabs (8 ohms to the combo speaker, 8 ohms to the pair of speakers in the 16 ohm cab). It's a very versatile amp by the way. My cab is not commercial, it is two Eminence Kappalites which are capable of 300W RMS that I put in a Seismic Audio cab. I would get a 16 ohm cab for versatility but as longs as its not 4 ohms you're set. PLAY LOUD

I have used a 2x12 and other extension cabs with my 1x10 combo a few times in the past and it sounded great. They've always been borrowed and therefore with no thought put to matching or speaker selection but the result has always been a bigger, louder, less boxy sound. The aesthetics have never been good.

A tech tip, if it helps. You can go one 8 ohm output to one 8 ohm cab, OR one 16 ohm cab, OR two 16 ohm cabs. If you do two 8 ohm cabs (your combo plus an extension), that is a 4 ohm load and your amp can't handle that. That's why I suggested a 16 ohm cab, so you could plug into just that 16 ohm 212, or the 110+212 depending on how you feel. Sorry if you knew that already.

Yeah I’m pretty in the know about impedance.

I’m just worried that the 110 will be screaming and the 212 will be moderate if I do 110+212

Get a higher wattage, more efficient 10” speaker to go in the 1x10.
