soursound hundred dollar boost
sure, clean boosts are not terribly exciting, but they're useful & you're unlikely to find a more well designed/ built example...

I mean, ok, there are builders who ask for more, but this is still a circuit worth like a couple of bucks, so the profit margin is still pretty ridiculous.
Also, I've never owned a boost pedal so I should maybe gtfo.

I think you would like a boost pedal actually.UglyCasanova wrote:I mean, ok, there are builders who ask for more, but this is still a circuit worth like a couple of bucks, so the profit margin is still pretty ridiculous.

"Ever take the back off of that pedal you just spent $250 only to find it's but a few parts hurriedly put together with some overpriced paint job on the front?" - No.
"I’ve always thought that was pretty lame." - I suppose it would be.
"We made the hundred dollar boost to prove a point." - Well that's not a very good reason to make a pedal.
"That same old mosfet boost everyone is already making, that slapped together build quality, and those horribly cheap parts aren't worth the cash they're asking." - Who exactly are "they"?
This whole ad copy confuses me. Am I supposed to appreciate their choice of big font over the lack of an overpriced paint job? If I need a boost it's just to make things louder, not to buy into this whole concept of all other boosts being too expensive and somehow dishonestly/poorly made.
Anyway I have the RMA Tetanus booster which is the most superior of all boosters, so I'm good forever.

The original design of the pedal was a rather more elegant laser etched tree and small type affair. The new redesign is modern but blah IMO.frodog wrote:"Ever take the back off of that pedal you just spent $250 only to find it's but a few parts hurriedly put together with some overpriced paint job on the front?" - No.

Keep in mind also that this pedal was originally offered 10 years ago in the deepest part of the boutique pedal boom when 10 new companies came into the market every week and they all made a gooped SHO, Tube Screamer, and a RAT as their first offerings. So the "they" is pretty much every company around back then. Honestly a lot of them are probably now companies that people revere that got their start making simple things.
Seems like this is slightly more than just a mosfet boost since there is a charge pump and a microcontroller for the relay system. The appeal isn't as strong in 2019 though.

Main company now I know doing a clean boost for $250 is Fortin with the 33 and his work is super clean and his components are extremely high quality...

A hand painted SHO is still a $300 pedal

One could use Brothers as a $350 boost, were one so inclined.
Former Bands: Lazy Gaga, Kadis-kot, Pyramids, In First Person, the Holy Fucking Spirit, Take Down Your Art, A Petal Fallen

So it's an "if you're looking at this you already know what it is" kind of thing. Looking at pics of the old pedal it did look much better, I agree.whoismarykelly wrote:The original design of the pedal was a rather more elegant laser etched tree and small type affair. Searching a little more on 2009 boosts, apart from the SHO I found the Suhr Koko Boost was released then? I don't know how expensive it was at the time, but it doesn't have a particularly fancy paintjob, in fact I really dislike the type and finish of that one, though I'm sure it sounds good (and also has mid control). Then the Mellowtone Hi-Five seems to be around the same period, and I don't think the price on that on was high and obvs it looks bomb.
Personally I don't think a good paintjob should be underrated, nor should it add too much to the cost. But it depends on a lot of factors, and of course many people don't even want art on pedals. As primarily an "artist" (always been drawing, not so much painting) myself, I find it hard to put a value on my work anyway, apart from the many hours each piece usually takes.
