Is it just me, or is modern hardcore really lulzy?

Post by theavondon »

Just listen to this, and try not laughing after the FIRST LINE.

My friends and I have just been telling each other to fucking bow down now.

But, I mean, can bands like this really be serious? It seems like trolling via music.

I have to say, the first line reminds me of Brian Posehn for some reason.
And is, therefore, hilarious.

Okay, that's from Morel Orel. It's all starting to make sense now.

Yeah that's how me and my friends see modern hardcore. I have no idea how anyone can take it seriously or distinguish one band from another.

Jesus... I don't even know how HC became THAT... It sucks because I'm a man who lerves his HC Punkshit, but I imagine everyone thinks I mean this kind of doodoo when I just say "I like Hardcore".

HC is fucking.... like... a pretty fucking flexible term... but this shit just irritates the panties off of me, and I can't really compare it to any "classic" HC, even the more extreme "proto-grind" stuff like Siege...

I blame Hatebreed... Seems (to me), like they are kind of where a lot of this modern "HC" started... I guess it's not impossible to see how this sort of stuff could've evolved from some American (Boston) HC or something, but...... ugh...

Also, this track in particular hurts my ears... Listening to the sharp decay on the guitar, it's like they just sampled a guitar or something and spliced the notes together... ugh... I'm sure it was just heavily gated, but it sounds ridiculous, and as if it were made by Bro-bots...

I know I'm splitting hairs here, but I would refer to this as Deathcore. The label Born of Osiris is on, Sumerian, has a lot of bands like this. When I think of modern hardcore, I think of bands on Deathwish (Jacob Bannon's label). One of my favorite hardcore bands from the last couple of years is Modern Life Is War. Sadly, they are now defunct, but they were great.

Im with you. A bunch of my friends drove from Jersey to Iowa for MLIW last show. When I think of hardcore I think of bands that still have a punk influence to them or bands that are just angry as shit with a cd that can be 17 tracks and last for 20 minutes. Some of my favorite newer hardcore bands are Ceremony, Trash Talk, Defeater, Dead Swans and Touche Amore. Deathwish is putting out alot of really good hardcore bands Trap Them is fucking great.

Yup, that's more metal than core. One of my favorite modern (metallic) hardcore, in adddition to what has been mentioned above would be Cancer Bats. Still clearly a punk influence there.

I've heard Born of Osiris described as "prettycore", but, when the average d-bag at a high school tells you he's in a hardcore band, he means this crap. I still think Paint it Black's "CVA" is one of the greatest albums of all time, so I know ACTUAL modern hardcore exists. There's hope.

To me, hardcore is more of a moral/work ethic type thing, rather than a certain sound or genre.
