Soft click switches

Post by Glitches&switches »

Who or where to go to have switches changed out to soft click switches? Looking for resource for this, my momentary vario is driving me nuts with it's loud click and I have may have this done to a few other pedals depending on price, definitely not something I am inclined to do myself.

A lot more information needed but generally a "soft click" switch is going to be a momentary SPST that triggers a relay or other bypass circuit in the pedal. So any pedal that doesn't have an electronic or relay bypass will need that complete circuit added to the pedal to make the change. If a pedal has that type of bypass it is likely to already have a soft switch because they're cheap and trendy. If the circuit in question is a controller like your Vario then there may be more functions the switch is performing and it may not be an SPST. If its not an SPST you won't be replacing it with a common soft switch.

There are "soft click" latching 3pdt's that don't require a relay, but I'm not aware of the momentary ones.

Take the back plate off and tell me how many solder lugs are on the bottom of the switch; it's either 2, 4 or 6 I'm guessing

Pricey, but very soft.

Your Vario is latching, so it needs a switch like this. Otherwise you could make it a soft momentary switch.

My vario is not latching, it is the momentary version which is why the loud click switch is annoying, seems silly to not use a soft click switch for momentary since he uses them for his momentary switches on the revolver.

The revolver switches are SPST and the switch in your Vario is a DPDT. They're not performing the same function.

So in short, no option to not have a hard click switch in the vario I assume then?

If you find a momentary DPDT with soft action then maybe. Otherwise just play louder. Switches really aren't that loud.

I've never heard a loud momentary switch.

The switch in a stock Freeze has an audible click at the end of its travel so maybe its like that?

Neither had I until this one, it's like a normal hard click, the switch is momentary though, I was kinda shocked honestly as I've never seen that before either.

That's why they specify "soft touch" though I have also never seen a soft touch DPDT momentary.

The dpdt's need a rocker action to make sure both contacts hit at the same time. similar to a 3pdt.

The "soft touch" normally open or normally closed use a different type of actuator, which makes them softer.

Long story short... buy a bunch of momentary DPDT from https://lovemyswitches.com/dpdt-momenta ... lder-lugs/ and see which ones feel or sound the best. Then put that one in.

I can help you out with the second part

I don’t mean to hijack the thread but is it possible to replace a very hard switch with a less hard one, without going all the way to full-on soft? I’m thinking of a pedal like the Boneshaker.
