It all sounds the same to me, but I find both effects largely embarassing. That said, I have (and sometimes enjoy) the Spectre, which is as close to a flanger-hater's flanger as I've ever found.

Yes, m̶a̶n̶y̶ most guitarists don't know how to optimize their effects, but that doesn't make the effects unusable. With slow rates and 50-70% depth, phasers & flangers will both add color, movement, and width to soundscapes, pads, and drones. If adding texture and liveliness to effects via conventional modulation is a bad thing, then I don't see how inserting whale calls is a more viable alternative.

The Alexander F.13 Neo is a great bit of kit for people who don't like flangers. The multiple waveforms let you get some great non-flanger flange sounds going (and it's a pretty bloody good chorus and vibrato too).

On the F.13 are you able to dial in a stationary / non sweeping flange to get those resonant steel drum-ish tones?

I'm not sure, I've not tried (will give it a go this weekend!). Apparently you can with the rate set to zero though.

Anyways! I just got an urge to get a flanger again just cause I love goth shit. Like I have been on a huge Cure kick and I just love the sounds they get with flangers and choruses stacked.

Am I just feeling "I don't have this so I need it"? I am thinking I should rather just get another chorus pedal but like all chorus pedals are boring as shit overpriced mojo boxes for old SRV/Gilmour/whatever old dudes who use chorus without getting shunned by the haters.

Boss flangers are the best. CE-2 into an HF-2 is fancy as fuck. However...

I've definitely found that to be the case. I keep wanting to go back to the BF/HF-2 but I just don't need to, so they're gone. I actually prefer how flanger on bass anyway.

Ok I did some trying out with the bitquest again and i think i got some tones i could enjoy using that actually works with the ice-pick crunch i usually run. I think I could pick up like a bf-2 and not feel bad about it. Descriptions of the ibanez fl99 has me intrigued tho, making the flange be a radical vibrato sounds like something id enjoy. Alot of that stuff is probaby fine but like im not paying over 200 and getting something like the alexander or spectre and like im sure 4 knobs is fine

Ok bringing this thread back after researching a lot on the use of flangers and which ones may suit me. Kinda fell for the good ole A/DA, mostly cause the polarity switch seems to affect the entire delay path rather than the feedback so it makes for awesome almost thru zero sounds. It is kinda pricy for my current budget tho so asking if you guys know any alternatives with a switch like that. Also dug a demo of the Alexander Flanger 13 where they used the dynamic for envelope vibrato, tempting cause it could replace sounds from the pitchfactor

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the "voice" (or whatever it's called) switch on the Moog MF-Flange works in the same way.

I'm actually eyeballing the Keeley Bubble Tron. It's a weird unconventional flanger, and does a buncha other stuff too, so...want!

Is it just me or is it really hard to find "just right" on a flanger used on distorted guitar? Either I can't hear any flange at all or it sounds like some Flash Gordon shit.
