Future dirt

Post by tremolo3 »

Similar to that "Future amps" thread.

Other than that nanotechnology Dr Scientist dirt pedal, is there something really new or unique out there? Not strictly looking for analog pedals, or even pedals, could be VST, rack, app...

Bonus point if it doesn't cost $400, or if it can be used standalone.

Thanks! :)

Obvious but the Plasma and the other servo motor dirt Gamechanger is doing.

Mattoverse Air Trash is pretty crazy sounding.

The Black Spiral is powered by little robotic nano-squirrels.

The Dirge Slowly Metling was a pretty unorthodox approach to distortion but fucking with a delay ship until it produced distortion on top of it's delay effect.

Doesn't source audio have some weird wave folding modes in one of their dirt boxes?

The future of dirt will be a pedal with a small speaker attached to the inside top of the pedal aimed at the bottom of the pedal which with have a contact mic on it, the pedal will be filled with rocks, soil, paperclips and glitter. Then we will finally have a real dirt box :thumb:

Wave folding? Which is in the Source Audio stuff, though I think just Sound Blocks stuff, not the newer rectangular boxes? (I may not be keeping up.)

The only problem with the Air Trash is that it's really only for stringed fings/low output, which bummed me out after wanting to play it through synths :(

I'm all aboard for the wave folding & comb filtering futures ahead of us, even if Elektron Heat-type machines for many bills seem the most likely.

Comparatively, the semi-maligned Source Audio boxes all sound pretty great for their price points, though I know some feel like they are too digital for most (still always cheaper than a Strymon, howevesers).

i thought the Unpleasant Surprise was pretty radical. i regret missing out when they were new...i got to play one when the Fairfield tour box went around, and wished i had another week to mess with it.

It's in a couple of the algos in the dirtbox.

I'd put those (since they're the same one under the hood, just different factory presets on the switches) up there honestly.

EQ options, routing, stereo/parallel/whatever, it's very close to "make your own thing from the ground up."

Which Source Audio pedal you guys are talking about?

That Air Trash though... hot damn!
I wish it had stereo ins/outs, but they are dirt cheap.

Geiger Counter seconded. Also Zoia, though I recognize 1) it's not for everyone, and 2) I may be kind of 'one note' if I keep this up.

In terms of analog dirt, I'm not so sure there's much left to do. But as others have said, wavefolding, aliasing, SRR, and bit reduction are all 'sorta' dirt that haven't been used to the extent that they could be. Blending these with the traditional fuzz circuits can get into some really fun and novel territory.
