Trem-Off! StoneDeaf FX Tremotron vs Coppersound Loma Prieta

Post by Blood_mountain »

Hey Folks,

Does anyone have experience with these two pedals? I'm in the market for a new trem pedal. I currently have the Cusack Tap-a-Whirl, and love that it has a ton of different waveform options, but it's missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. I think weird old dudes might say it's lacking "mojo". (Disclaimer - I'm kind of an old dude.)

Ok, Tremotron VS. Loma Prieta? I like them both, I think they're swell based on what I've heard, but I've never played them. I like the presets and the ability to layer two waveforms on the Tremotron. I like the grit and the lofi setting on the Loma Prieta. Both are similarly priced since StoneDeaf FX dropped their prices. Thoughts?

Also Trem-related: does anyone do a trem pedal that also has a warbly, crackly, tape-like modulation? And if not, why not?

I loved the Tremotron but had endless issues with volume drop and the stupid internal trimmer. They even replaced it once only to have me finally return it. It sounded amazing and the features were great but damn...what a hassle.

Stacked PCB boards don't help. It's a nightmare to troubleshoot.

That's such a bummer to hear, especially since it's not an inexpensive pedal!
I would hope they plan to address any quality issues on new runs.
I like the midfi stuff, and haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet, so I'll check that one out a bit closer.

Did you end up getting rid of it? Soundwise, it's what I'm looking for. But I'm reluctant if multiple people have had major issues with these pedals.

Oh yeah. After the replacement was a PITA I dumped it fast.

Good luck! I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. I wasted enough time on two units.
Life is short. But hey, it's cool so maybe it'll work for you.

Lastgasp Flikrrr is a random trem that's pretty subtle but can give some worn tape sounds. It also works as a boost.

Hexe Melusine is a worn media simulator.

Drolo might have some patches for the molecular disruptor.

Ring Modulation and a copilot broadcast.

I have a friend who has tried the Copperound Loma Prieta and loves it, but I have not personally...

I was excited for this trem, but then was just a bit underwhelmed by the videos. Not sure why, but I just felt it was lacking something.
