One thing I've noticed is that a lot of the submissions already have a lot going on. It might be nice to "assign" the more "complete" submissions and leave some of the more "simple" submissions as open use. However, this is all incredibly subjective (hence all the " " ) and I wouldn't want anyone to take offense to what might be considered "complete" or "simple"
Not a bad idea.
I agree, some tracks definitely have a lot going on (even if I haven't listened to all on those).
The next ones i'm uploading (hope during the weekend) are simpler and focused on a single "kind" of sound/noise. I thought that this way it will be easier to transpose them in different contexts.
Sorry if there's a lot of stuff going on in mine. There's not a lot of tracks happening, maybe 5 or 6 at the most? But maybe I could cut some down if it's a problem. I just record every day because this is all I do for a living so I tend to complete stuff once I start. No biggie either way.
Singer-songwriter, composer, author and mastering engineer.
Should be able to upload stuff in the next couple of days!
Kept things fairly singlelayered...
I like the idea of a few assinged samples, cause it might be fun to witness them being treated differently by different artists
and/or give the whole album a sense of cohesion/reprise if a sample reappears in a different context...?
But I'm up for anything from total freedom to total sample dictatorship in this case

Question for participants: we're gonna have a fair bunch of source material. When we get to the mix/assemble phase, what do people think would be more fun? Should it just be an open library and you can fiddle with other people's sounds as you see fit? Ot would it make sense that some submissions get "assigned" exclusively to other people? (And should that be through a random draw? Something else?)
In my mind it would have originally worked like that: some of the submissions are given to specific people for their use only, some would be available to all. But I'm very open to other opinions here.
I wouldn't mind doing 2 songs. One being sourced from stems of our own choosing and the other using an "assigned" track. Maybe instead of making the assigned tracks exclusive, we use un-used or little-used tracks as the assigned tracks so there is a pay off for everyone who took the time to upload something.
I would rather have everything free for everyone to use, or not. But if everyone else wants to do it a different way I can work with that. Hoping to do some sounds to submit this week

that's a nice idea.

nothing to be sorry about, it's just different ways of approaching it, the final result is up to the "mixer/editor" so if you wan to submit more complex stuff feel free to do it, maybe somebody's gonna use it as main track and build stuff on it, or just steal some segments for different use
I'm glad I gave a fairly extended period for generating sounds.... I ended up picking up some extra work and I'll be pretty occupied this week and next. Have about four things generated already. Trying to resist temptation to layer and mess with stuff too much to create things other people can mess with.
So far I have one track that is built of fairly layered and mangled samples, two tracks of simple drones from my modular, and one track recording my studio with the Soma Ether. I need to re-record that last one, though; I think I messed up the recording. I'd like to record a couple more simple ones from the modular and I have a Mono Station on the way that I'll try to record if it gets here in time. I also still really want to go for a hike with my H5 and Ether; didn't get a chance last weekend like I thought I would.

Sorted it out and uploaded a couple of tracks.

Haha yeah the impulse to make a "finished" thing is quite hard to resist. So I think I might just leave it to the sounds I have uploaded and maybe record some environmental sounds or speech. Want it to be more open for people to use.
