Your essential bass pedals
What would you consider to be essential bass pedals? I typically go with compressor, dirt with a clean blend, and chorus but don't really bother with anything else. What's your take?

Meatbox. Once you've tried it everything else just sounds lame and without weight.

It has everything to do with what you are playing. Pedals are tools, you use what is needed to do the job you need. Personally I need a pretty full board because I play in a trio that covers a lot of material and I need to cop guitar and synth sounds so: synth/ octave, distortion/fuzz (yes I use a clean blend on these.. Most of the time), envelope filter, term/phase/chorus, echo/reverb and a compressor (which is always on because I like the sound)nogodsnobedtimes wrote:What would you consider to be essential bass pedals? I like some kind of envelope-filter (WMD Protostar for me). I don't like to sound too funky, but even just a subtle sweep before dirt seems to add a whole other dimension to dynamics.

Maybe I’m just all jacked up from Game of Thrones but can you imagine if this thread was made about the “normal” guitar?
Hey guys what pedals do I need to play guitar? I’ll be playing music with it!

Meh, guitars aren't really essential, you can have a piano, or a sax or a organ for a main instrument, bass instruments serve a purpose. Just look at most bands that are just guitar and drums... They suck ass.retinal orbita wrote:Maybe I’m just all jacked up from Game of Thrones but can you imagine if this thread was made about the “normal” guitar?

My band is bass / drums / vocals and we have never discussed adding "guitar" to it.

I always have my good ol' Q-Tron envelope filter on for some movement. The EHX nano Hot Tubes has become an 'always on' as well with the bass.

BASS>GUITAR>MODULAR>Playing the tambourine
Essential...hmmm...not sure I'd call any pedal essential with bass really.
I personally prefer some kind of overdrive/distortion, though I tend to lean more towards OD, a fuzz of some sort, a delay and maybe some kind of modulation. It depends on what I'm playing really.
I like to have a wide variety of pedals to toy with but I can also get down with some clean playing. So, I'd say the closest thing to essential to me is a preamp in pedal form or in my bass. I could live without the rest if I really had to. Though, I wouldn't want to.
