Could barefoot buttons be fuckin up my switches?
So two pedals I've put barefoot buttons on have ended up having the footswitch die on me. Well one completely did and I got it fixed and now the most crucial one is fucking up. I have a show next week and every time I step on my fuzz I'm rolling the dice between normal fuzz or quiet muffled farts.
Has this happened to anyone else? Am I just stepping on them wrong? I have no soldering iron and no backup fuzz so I'm a little worried about next week.

It's always possible that the barefoot buttons are contributing something though.
Can you rig up a bypass loop for the fuzz for your show?

Possibly. I might be able to make do with just 2 dirt pedals. THE AGONY

I wouldn't be surprised if they put extra sideways pressure on the stomp since you're hitting it from a higher and possibly more lateral angle. ?
I dunno. I kinda feel like I'm doing that on mine.
But deez 3PDT's be having problems regardless.

True. Someone should offer a service to replace em with soft relay switches. They'd make a killing I bet

You can buy prewired kits but you have to install them yourself. I bet BoS would do it for ya in trade for some hot sauce.

I've had multiple stomp switches go bad recently without using barefoot buttons. One was pretty new too. Maybe just switches have gone to shit? Might be worth spraying deoxit in the switch and actuating it like 2 dozen times.

I put one on a keeley pedal, and I think the shaft of the footswitch is just a bit shorter than most bc when the barefoot button is on, I sometimes can’t get the switch to switch off and on, but with the barefoot button off, I have no problem. I thought it was the pedal since I had just purchased it used, but it’s the button and not the switch.

This seems most likely.adamajah wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if they put extra sideways pressure on the stomp since you're hitting it from a higher and possibly more lateral angle. ?

I second this.codetocontra wrote:I've had multiple stomp switches go bad recently without using barefoot buttons. One was pretty new too. Maybe just switches have gone to shit? Might be worth spraying deoxit in the switch and actuating it like 2 dozen times.

I had an issue a barefoot button. I thought the switch on my bitquest was shot but what actually happened was the barefoot button settled and wouldn't let it depress enough.

And this right here is why I have always thought those things were a bad idea!karmablock wrote:I had an issue a barefoot button. I thought the switch on my bitquest was shot but what actually happened was the barefoot button settled and wouldn't let it depress enough.

I'd bet this issue will be more or less prevalent between makers/switch type. For instance, soft switches are usually lower profile than latching...Builders also set the level of their switches at various heights. So something like a Dr Scientist pedal, which uses soft switching & has the switches themselves set very low/flush to the enclosure, will likely encounter this.karmablock wrote:I had an issue a barefoot button. Re: Could barefoot buttons be fuckin up my switches?
No they don't cause an issue. Think of it as a fulcrum. The weight is going to even through out because of the distribution of weight around it. It's designed that way. Having it in place, should not affect it unless it's a design issue with the stomp switch. Meaning, on the Bitquest for instance, Ryan used short momentary stomps. Well, that's why v2's don't work as well because there is less space for the stomp button to depress. These are not made for every possible scenario. LOL. It's impossible. Although, I've found that different variants work for different brands. For the Bitquest, the skirtless option works the best. It always for maximum depth with a stomp allow the switch to easily engage. It is worth noting, those stomp are kind of crappy in some of the runs. It's not because Ryan bought crap ones, it's that some are just like that unfortunately. So, I've thought about replacing mine with Lehle switches or an upgraded momentary.
I've use Barefoot Buttons on everything for the past couple of years. Zero issues ever with the buttons. It's always the stomp.

i had an issue with a bad switch that had a barefoot button on it. i don't know for sure that the button was the cause, but it was enough that i took them off of all my pedals.

Re: Could barefoot buttons be fuckin up my switches?
What brands are you guys experiencing issues with? It's interesting because it only weighs a few grams, so it would never fully depress the switch on its own (buttons I'm meaning) but perhaps over enough time that could cause internal strain?
Most switches are rates for so many damn stomps that it seems super unlikely that the buttons could cause the issue, however, I mean, it also could make sense...haha.
Fucking manufactures just make their goddamn switches bigger or if builders could space things a bit more evenly, then we wouldn't need all these fancy dancy things!
I wonder also if anyone has had any switches fail with those plastic top ones. Those would be even lighter.
I've had Barefoot Buttons comes loose and fall off before. That annoyed the shit out of me. This is really baffling to me though.
