Baroness has a great style. I've always really liked Purple and Yellow & Green. Looking forward to the rest of the album.

If you came here hoping for a reprise to First, Second, Red or Blue then know that you won't find it.

Somebody, somewhere, referred to Baroness as an Indie band that liked sludgy metal, and that's probably pretty accurate.

That said, it wasn't bad. I liked purple more than Yellow & Green for sure.

Which is exactly why I like them, there's traditional stoner sludge for days, but baroness' slice of indie proggy sludge is their own. The first verse in this song is pretty Belewy. :joy:

They've cultivated a really unique sound/vibe. To me, Y&G is their best, followed by Purp. I'm expecting Gold & Grey to be even more produced, perhaps too mainstream so i dunno, but we'll see.

New single is on Spotify. Sounds really good! Not too overproduced either. Just slick

Yea I'm very hype for this. Purple came out right when I need it, and this just sounds like Purple with better production. Plus the album art kicks ass as usual.

I m gonna giive a listen to the full album when it comes out even if this single isn't particularly good to my ears. I have been unable to give a rating to Purple because I really love some songs but at the same time I am getting tired of the "anthemic" singing style.
Still, they're one of the bands I enjoyed the most in the past years, and live they totally rip.

:idk: There's a thousand bands with that style. I love the early albums to pieces, but change is good. Besides, the old albums aren't going anywhere.

They run their own label so I don't expect them to become overly mainstream anytime soon.

So far I really dig the new tracks I've heard from them. If the rest of G&G can keep pace it'll be a home run.

That's true, but stylistic choices aside, that particular song I posted does "build up to crushing climax" better than most regardless of genre. To me, that is what their new music is missing. I like the clean vocals on their new stuff and the guitar work is cool, the songs just don't take me anywhere. Maybe I didn't give them a fair shake but I haven't felt compelled to revisit them.

I don't dig it. The vocals bother me so much, I can't get passed it. Maybe after 10 more listens. :)

New one

I hear some shoegazey influences here and there, which I like, there's also a blastbeat/deafheavenish small part, which I also like.

BUT

Those. Fucking. Vocals.

:picard:

Please release an instrumental version of the album.

This just came up in my Spotify new releases and damn! This is the most I've liked them in a few albums. Still not crazy about the vocals but the rest of it kicked ass.
