I was never really a fan, but their intensity was undeniable, and Keith was their voice and face. cause of death undetermined; police are not viewing as suspicious,

Bummer, surely he has been the most recognizable face of the band, even if I don't follow them anymore I have spent some really wild nights during high school with Music for the Jilted Generation and The Fat of the Land as soundtracks.
Seems like they're talking about suicide.

The popularity of The Prodigy in the UK during the 90's cannot really be understated. They were everywhere and they somehow transitioned from rave darlings to this genuinely edgy 'urban' music machine. I'm not sure if it was solely the addition of Keith as frontman/vocalist that accounted for that but all the pieces kind of clicked into place.

This really was shocking to hear, RIP.

'Diesel Power' has just started on the radio, one of my favourites cuts, seems kind of fitting.

Yeah - I suppose given the thread angle, this is a shit thing to do, but I only liked a couple of tracks Keith did vox on. My favorites were always guest singers/collaborators, like Diesel Power and Narayan. Howlett was 95% of that bomb factory.

But this news is horrible because it seemed like they were trying to break back into the American market this year, staging a big tour and all. Gone way too soon.

Were Keith's vocals my favourite part of the Prodigy? Honestly, no. Was he an invigorating frontman? Hell yeah. Howlett was absolutely the brains of the outfit and I always felt that Maxim was overlooked in the band.

Still horrible news and if it was indeed suicide then it's just heartbreaking.

every single anecdote i've seen shows Keith as a lovely man, sweet, kind, and the polar opposite of his onstage persona. perhaps the sweetest one was James Blunt describing his experience at the Q Magazine music awards in the 90s. Noel Gallagher said he was going to move off of Ibiza because Blunt had moved there; Damon Albarn refused to be in the same photo, and Paul Weller said he'd rather eat his own shit than listen to Blunt's music. by contrast, Keith went over, gave Blunt a big hug, and said how happy he was for Blunt to have such success. damn shame to see a good guy dead by his own hand.

Yeah, that James Blunt story is ace. Paul Weller is one of the biggest shithouses involved in British music today, and his solo output is 90% dreadful and 10% 'yeah, I could just about listen to this if my grandparents were visiting and I have to switch off the grindcore, I SUPPOSE'. He doesn't really have a moral high ground as a musician here. Guy looks like he cuts his own hair in the dark.

I hope James Blunt took him up on that offer. Collab single, or eat a turd.

Lots of nice stories circulating about people who have met him. Prior to his death, I'd only ever heard negative things about him, such as his involvement in fox hunting, and general right-wingery. Also heard that when he wasn't doing vocals, he liked to make himself throw up on the people in the front row.
