i don't think i've seen anyone with good things to say about Warmoth necks in ages now.

what makes Costello a poseur to me isn't that he has differing interests, it's that he was a fairly mainstream writer pre-Ramones-in-London who wrote up a new bunch of songs that could pass for "punk" so he could get signed. isn't that the very definition of cynically producing product?

Steel Reserve is better than any beer
For like $1.50 for 8.1% high-gravity beer, it works for sure.
And it's better than crap like Budweiser.
My favorite beer is Hop Valley though it's a tad pricier.

Also, the NW can suck a dick these days.

I suppose this all hinges on whether you think the first record even aims at being punk, which I can't say that I do. :idk:

To be clear I'm not trying to mount some defence of his integrity or anything. I don't think being a "poser" or whatever is a bad thing if you incidentally create great music while doing it - who cares WHY you did it?

Just interested where you're coming from.

well, for me a defining characteristic of the poseur is that they *don't* create great work due to lack of true conviction and inspired artistry. Costello had some good songs, but always felt contrived to me and IMO disappeared up his own ass sometime in the mid-80s never to be heard from again. and to go back, Patti Smith's pre-hiatus work is nothing *but* contrived.

here's another controversy: IMO porn sucks. and not in the way you'd like. why hand over your sexual agency to some corrupt information vendor who'll only give you lies in return? porn is the flagship product of the society of the spectacle.

This is the problem with the poser label!

well, no. from Lydon to Lora Logic to MES to This Heat, Henry Rollins, and Hüsker Dü, the punk family tree is downright replete with folks who emphatically didn't try to be anything other than who they were. it's the tourists, the trendseekers that i despise.

FWIW i also hate the kind of cod-psychedelica that was all the rage c.1968 and pretty much all white-girl attempted R&B singers as well, and for the same reasons. nor can i stand Americans singing in a fake English accent e.g. Robert Pollard.

ZOMG now I remember that album
