broken pedal, need somenew options

Post by Van Diemen »

Hey peeps,

one of my favourite pedals has stopped working, it's a Ibanez FL9 (84 model), check the link for more info;http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/ibanez/9/fl9

now I know what your all thinking, and yes, I did shed some tears and I thank you for your condolences.

while I wait to see if it can be repaired (fingers crossed), does anyone have any thoughts on other flanger pedals I can check out......and no, it's not cheating when it has (allegedly) got one foot in the grave.

The Ibanez Soundtank FL-5 is near an exact clone apart from not having a Delay pot... and the Daphon E20FL is an exact clone of that and goes under the names listed here - http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/daaqua/e20fl

So one of those would be my suggestion.

Does not work any more, all you get is the speed knob doing a whoop whoop whoop sound at full. I open it up and there is some brown/burn marks on the under side of the circuit board, but I dont know, they could have been there for a long time prior to me opening it.

yes, power supply changed etc........

I'd start by analyzing the BBD line. Perhaps the BBD has checked out, perhaps the bias has drifted.
Ideally, you want approx. half BBD supply voltage at the input, the most accurate way to bias the BBD is monitoring output on a scope and adjusting the bias for symmetrical clipping at the outputs(s). You may need to balance the outputs as well. I do not recommend this procedure without access to a scope and an firm understanding as to the operation of the BBD. Some folks will "use their ears" but optimal performance cannot be achieved without accurate alignment.

Have decided that it needs to be seen by a doctor, i have no phd in anything, so a doctor has been ordered.

Thanks for your opinion, i noticed you dont make a flanger, real bummer that one. :poke:

Now I'd like to see that in a small metal enclosure.
