Last 4x12 I bought (and still own) was a Peavey 412s, loaded with brand new celestion g12t-75, for less than $100. Not the most sought after speakers, but getting a solid cab plus 4 nice speakers for less than the cost of one...a deal I'll take any daymisterstomach wrote:I’ll second the suggestion for old peaveys. Can often be found really cheap and are great cabs.

There are so many stories I've run across of xxxxx's first album being recorded with a Peavey 412 and that's the tone that the fans went gaga over. But that would probably all be from the era when everything was still be made in Mississippi.

I've got an old Peavey 4x12, and because the thing wasn't heavy enough already the previous owner had it coated in fucking spray on truck bed liner. I could probably drag it behind my car without damaging it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Right now I have a Marshall 1960 and a Sunn 412L. The Sunn sounds great and looks cool but its huge, so I've been considering downsizing. Not 100% sure yet but I will be keeping my eyes out for a sweet deal.

Came here to say old peavey or laney, guess I'm late to the party
In my experience beat up old Marshall 1960 cabs from the late '80s can be found just as cheap as newer ones that don't have plywood backs.
Still the best weight/tone/price/quality ratio imo.

I have some cab by a company whose name is escaping me. They make cheaper stuff. There is some dude on Youtube that did a A/B with a Mesa Recto cab and this cab I'm referring to where he covered the cab so you couldn't know the make. I owned one and it was pretty good considering you can get it for $100 or so on craigslist. I'll have to find the maker.

I’ve got a couple of custom built cabs and I still end up using the 5150 412 I picked up for 80 bucks so I’m gonna go Peavey also.
