It's hard figured out what amp to buy. If I could get something nice and cheap it'd be great since I wouldn't have to sell stuff to get it(Though I might anyway, and buy a load of weed, I've heard it's a worthwhile investment).
I want an amp with DECENT CLEAN HEADROOM, GOOD CLEAN TONES(including clean break up), acceptable mid to high gain tones, and that either has an effects loop(or can be modded easily to have one) or good reverb, or preferably both.
I really liked the sound of the Blackstar HT-5. I loved that it got those Marshally low gain tones that you seem to get on some Pumpkins stuff. Sort of chimey, but not in your face chimey like a vox, kind of more mellow but also beefier. The HT-20 was disappointing, it was fairly generic BR00TALZ and I couldn't get the clean channel to break up at all.
At the moment to get that sort of sound, it's mostly between the Engl Gigmaster 15 and Super Champ XD(or getting a HT-20 and modding it, since it had awesome reverb and cleans). I can't find many good clips of the Super Champ XD. It has a line out but NOBODY EVER USES IT. I've also considered just getting a good SS amp with an effects loop and a modeler, that might do the same sort of thing but be able to go louder and shit.
I like the reliability of SS amps, so I was considering getting some kind of SS Fender too as some of those are supposed to be quite good. Dunno how the "clean breakup" sound on them is though.
I don't have much money. The Engl is pushing it and I'll probably only get it if I can find one second hand. The SCXD seems to be a good choice since it's more versatile, the same wattage, and has reverb on board. However I would need to get an effects loop modded.

100 watt tube would be overkill for me, I can't ever imagine needing that much power.
I need something compact and fairly low wattage, unless it's SS. Though then again the transtube peavey stuff still needs to be cranked to sound awesome.

Really? That's kind of neat. I would love an SS Bassman, actually. I'm thinking the SCXD could be a good way of getting both sounds in one box though. I prefer the Bassman for dirtier tones, Twins can have this annoying upper mids thing going on, the Bassman is perfectly voiced for Fuzz pedals.

It's awesome, but very expensive. If they made the character series into an amp, that'd be cool. I'd love an SS Orange amp that sounds like an Orange.

I hear the early ones had serious reliability issues though that could be earlier 60s SS amps.
SS amps didn't get "good" until the 70s though.
