SAMPLING!!!!

So let’s chat.
A while ago I had posted a thread about synth/electronic setups and while we touched in this a little I have discovered much more. I am only now aware of the power and cool ass shit samplers can do and I must have one ASAP. I’m looking at a microgranny (holy shit just found out about this thing and it seems perfect) or the pocket operator ko.

What do y’all like about them? Which one you like better? Is there anything else (in the price range) that I should consider? Most important feature is to be able to sample in the fly in a live music situation.

Also, if anyone has any of these things they would like to let go or trade... hey

i'm not sure what the other associated hardware is, but Jonny in Radiohead uses a KAOSS pad to mangle live samples on "Everything In Its Right Place" and it works quite well.

That is another unit I was thinking about but would rather have something with buttons (for now) and something I can sequence.

I'm new to the sampling world too so I'll be watching this thread. I just ordered a volca sample so I can't say much about it for now but it's an option you might want to consider. Cheap and the reviews are great.

My only qualm with the volca is from what I understand you cannot live record which would be a huge deal breaker for meh

Do you have an iPad? If so then try out Fieldscaper and Beatmaker 3, both fantastic samplers with completely different workflows.

I am iPad less currently. Would rather stick with hardware tho. Had iPads before and while patterning was an awesome app and had an awesome work flow I just can’t bond with the whole touch screen. I want buttons and knobs!!!!!

You want the Octatrack.
MKI is about $700 and includes all the upgrades they did on the MKII.

You can sample on the fly, but you would want to do more than just sampling, but the further you go the more complex it gets.

I've tried the microgranny and octatrack and both are oodles of fun. Haven't had time to really dive into them because I was borrowing other peoples' but woooow.

I have a volca sample and it's a wonderful drum machine but the way the sequencer works and the lack of live record makes it not a great general purpose sampler for me. I totally love it for making beats though.

I mostly use a morphagene which is amazing but does require having other modules so there's a rabbit hole effect.

The octatrack is a little (a lot) outta my price range. Tho it sounds dope I don’t think I’m ready for that. More looking for an intro sampler. Leaning towards the pocket operator right now. Anyone have any experience?

I've turned against Samplr, seeing as it's essentially abandonware right now. :idk: Granted, it being abandoned is best for iPad music as a whole, since the developer works for Apple now.

Also, if touchscreens aren't your thing, there are a lot of quality controllers for iPad that are well priced. :snax:
