Octave fuzz fatigue

Some interesting suggestions, but I still don't quite get the love for the Boss FZ-2. I tried one years ago and thought it was a decent FY-6 tone, but nothing amazing.

I use it with a Stratocaster. The FZ-23 in mode I makes my guitar sing.

I'm a big fan of the Basic Audio Super Fuzz. The switchable octave, half gain mode, and tone control put it into the top couple for me.

Sharing the top two spot is the Spaceman Nebula. It can be more subtile because of all the blend options, and is a great end-of-dirt stacker for giving an octave flavor to anything preceding.

Honorable mentions to the Source Audio Kingmaker, and the VFE Woodchipper, both great in their own right. The Barefoot Candiru five knobber also deserves a mention.

Logged in (which doesn't happen much) to say Basic Audio Super Fuzz. As mentioned, big fat fuzz with switchable octave, and capable of killer ring moddy sounds, too.

Correct! I have the Pearl OC-07 and it has a very nice kinda clean octave up sound.

It also has a funky bypass with some effect bleedthrough ... or at least the one I owned over a decade ago did.

Since I'm using a Strat I might give it (or the Behringer clone) another try.

I'm actually using that at the moment. I've been on the fence about selling it though. It's nice, but feels a bit like a "polite" fuzz factory.

I've stuck with the Fender Blender and Bee Baa as my main go-tos for a long time.

Scrambler is a sometimes treat, but it's ...too much... sometimes, or just not enough.

Scrambler now lives pushing the little Marshall DSL1 to oblivion, the other two haven't left my main board..ever.

I should add that on a Bee Baa, get OG spec, whether it's a real one or a proper build.

The "cleaned up for modern tastes" takes away the charm of the really, really nasty boost that works very well with Fender 6L6 amps.

I have had a bunch (tone machine, buzzz, fz2, Sib nick nitro, inganem step, bass micro synth, and malekko diabolik)

Honestly the bass micro synth is my favorite just for its versatility and the upper octave can be very defined. But the diabolik is my favorite. It’s a super nasty and thick gated octave up that can be devastating on lower notes and the blend makes it great for stacking

Might build myself an OF spec Bee Baa now. Forgot about the Fnord. Not sure about the Diabolik, but the Helium sound pretty good. Never read much about that one though.

I've got a few:

Guyatone FZ2
Zvex Fuzz Factory
MXR LA Machine
Behringer SF300

I like the Guyatone most as it sounds very aggressive but it isn't particularly versatile. I think it's a Superfuzz variant. The LA Machine is apparently based on the Foxx Tone Machine and it's much more polite. I also had a Scrambler clone a few years ago (Fredric Scrambled Brainz) and it was more chaotic, I'd like to try another one soon.

I'd like to try some more types of octave fuzz, possible a clone of the Fender Blender.

SSBS Buzzz and Damnation Audio Ugly Twin are the two I’m still in love with/that haven’t left my board. The fuzz in the Ugly Twin can be too much (it’s always set to full gain), but the octave is incredible
