How's the 303/MG workflow panning out for you DoS? I ordered the 2.5 firmware upgrade so kinda holding off getting too deep until that's in. I had noticed sometimes it just emits a SUPER FUCKING LOUD HIGH PITCH SQUEAK when trying to read a sample backwards with fast grains..... anyone else had that issue? Normally spontaneous, unexpected noise is nice, but in this case I kinda just want it to read the damn sample backwards as I requested.

if you're using the battery, has it been a long time since u changed it?

every time my granny starts acting up (never had that happen tho)
a fresh battery usually solves it.

Ah hadn't thought of that! I'll use a power supply next time and see if that helps

I have not noticed the squeak. Haven't actually fired up my 303 yet, still swapping over power supplys and the like.

i can't remember if i posted this elsewhere or not
heres a quick lil mod from last night (and one from awhile ago)
noticed that audio output from my micro granny gets really noise sometimes
decided to investigate so i opened her up.
by placing 2 larger caps on the in & out of the 5v regulator i was able to reduce the noise to almost nothing.
seems to be related to low voltage from the battery as this does not occur when plugged in via DC jack.
but i never use it plugged in tho.
the volts from my battery were like ~6.5v which i think the 5v regulator really likes something 7v or above to spit out a clean 5v signal
my 5v at the time was more like ~4.3v so thats how i came to my conclusion.
adding the caps, now my regulator spits out a healthy 5v! even at less than 7v from the battery

this one is adding an audio input thru so u can monitor what you are inputting. or use it like a passive mixer.
by using the input thru from the side connector and connecting it to the input jack (or input pot if u want volume control)
i put it on a switch b/c when u go to actually sample, it kinda messes w/ it if u turn on the recording monitor.
so u wanna be able to turn it off when sampling.

This is exactly my experience. It's out of batteries now kinda and its acting very strange, but hooked up to a power cord it works perfectly.

And wow sherm, input audio monitoring is exactly what I need. Thanks dudeeeee

Is there an easy way to tell what version a unit is? I want to buy a MG but the ones I"m looking at are listed as 2.0. Is that an issue?

theres no like display of the version as far as i know
u could like for instance try the instant store loop feature and see if it works. then u'd know if u had 2.4 or 2.5 or not
thats not really great.

its not a huge issue but they did make many improvements and bug fixes since 2.0

its pretty easy to update it yourself, i can point u in the right direction or even do it for u if u don't have the tools.
i've updated several to the latest 2.5 myself

Thanks for the info! I'm usually looking to save a little money by buying used gear, and also the available new MG units are the "noir" (black on black), neon green and neon orange units, and the knobs all lack indicator lines. Call me shallow but I usually need to be able to see my knob settings in the dark. The only "pigeon" unit I've seen for sale doesn't specify what version software (software?) it's running. Hmm, it's a little bit of a leap of faith to purchase...
