You Stole My Mojo!

As a blind buy I picked up Stabbing Westward's Wither, Blister, Burn, and Peel at a used book store. Wow! I had heard the name before but wasn't that familiar with the music. The band formed in 1984 in Illinois. Linkin Park sounds nearly very similar to Stabbing. Linkin formed in 1996, a year after WBBP came out. I can't help feel that Stabbing Westward's mojo was "borrowed". Some other bands I can think of are Hoobastank ("borrowed" Incubus's mojo) and Psychedelic Furs ("borrowed" Bowie's mojo); I love the Furs btw. What other bands liberally "borrowed"?

depends on your definition. As far as 1:1 radio material that "contains elements of" goes these have always felt particularly egregious to me:

I knew about the Nirvana and Zeppelin ones but the SOD and BB comparison is a bit weaker than the other two. I bet if you look long enough you can find another song with a similar type riff. But your examples are not necessarily what I'm getting at ... the Zeppelin and Nirvana songs are still distinctly Zeppelin and Nirvana. I'm thinking of very particular styles/identities being "copied" for many songs, not just riffs. But since you brought up stolen riffs here's a brutal one :

There was that blatant colddplay ripoff of kraftwerk. I heard some band the other day (was on a friend's Spotify) that sounded like they were doing a joy division imoression...I think it was tv on the radio? Maybe that band that hired Nels Cline? I dont remember.
