Pitch Fork or Whammy V?
Hi guys, not posted in a while. I want to get some form of pitch shifter so that I can create Slowdive-esque chorus breaks (I.e. When the Sun Hits etc). have limited budget but can stretch to either a Whammy V or a EHX Pitch Fork. I like the sound of the Whammy V because it can track chords but not sure if it maybe a bit over kill for just changing the pitch of the chords in choruses - which is primarily what I want to do. Sso maybe the Pitch Fork is the better option (although I don't know how well it is for tracking chords). There may be other units that might be better so please suggest if you feel it's relevant.
Look forward to hearing your opinions and advice. Cheers.

Digitech Whammy Ricochet is pretty lit and can be had for like $100 right now.

Ricochet is literally a Whammy V in a smaller chassis. You can choose between chords and classic mode.omarwhite wrote:Does the Ricochet track chords?

Yeah, no treadle and no expression jack but you can fine tune things. I really liked the ricochet. Downsized and occasionally kicking myself for letting it go. It's a dope pedal.
Not to get all cork sniffer on y'all but I seriously feel like I can hear a change in the sound when the Whammy V was in the chain. Not so with the Ricochet. YMMV.

Ricochet doesn't do harmonies though. Gotta have that 5th up.

I’ve never used a ricochet, but it looks like it has a 5th setting. Maybe I’m missing something. I’d love to try one out

It has the shift to a 5th up but you can't do a 5th up harmony. Just octave+dry. Sucks too, I'd buy it in a heartbeat otherwise. But the Pitchfork seems better for my needs. I just need static pitch shifting and a blend. Presets would be great. Im still waiting to hear how the Enzo works as a pitch shifter/harmony pedal but in theory it does everything I want a pitch shifter to do +1000 other things

How literally is the Ricochet a V in a smaller chassis? Are there pads on the circuit board to tap for MIDI access?

Now there's an idea....Gone Fission wrote:How literally is the Ricochet a V in a smaller chassis? Are there pads on the circuit board to tap for MIDI access?
No, there's no pads for a 5 pin DIN, but unless Norm went and stripped all the unused code (I don't think he did, would've been more work for no gain) you just might be able to brute force the Ricochet into the unused Whammy algorithms if you can get MIDI to the right place. Wish I had a schematic handy.

Cool, I will have to check that one. If it is basically a Whammy V but without the treadle then it sounds like the way to go.odontophobia wrote:Digitech Whammy Ricochet is pretty lit and can be had for like $100 right now.

Okay, the 5th up harmony isn't too much of an issue for me. Are both the Richochet and Pitch Fork good with chords?neonblack wrote:It has the shift to a 5th up but you can't do a 5th up harmony. Re: Pitch Fork or Whammy V?
Not tried a pitchfork but the whammy V (which is the same algorithm as the ricochet as people have said) is great with chords. It's slightly slow tracking but it's not very noticeable unless you're playing fast riffs. It doesn't bother me.
I'm interested in the pitchfork too because I have a whammy V and probably want to switch it for a ricochet for the extra space, but a pitchfork might work too...

I thought the Pitchfork has some digital overtones when I first played it. Second time through with it and I didn’t seem to notice it as much — different rig.coldbrightsunlight wrote:Not tried a pitchfork but the whammy V (which is the same algorithm as the ricochet as people have said) is great with chords. I don't know if the Ricochet does, but the Pitch Fork has an expression pedal jack so can be used like a Whammy too.
