I think they trigger changes in the backing tracks. But I could be wrong.

I actually saw him play tonight! FUCKING AWESOME.

he was using his 8bit fuzz alongside a pulsemonger pedal with a homemade foot controller, he was explaining it to me, it was awesome.

but what was really awesome is he told me to watch this video on his pulsemonger/foot controller.
