Pine body, ash top and back, brass pickguard, maple neck, koa fingerboard. All recycled from other projects
[warning: this is a old picture and the pickup is different than this but I am going to swap out the one I have in it currently to go in a different project, am thinking about putting a P90 in it..]

If you think that is scary then you won't be able to handle the one I am planning to build...Chankgeez wrote:Warning:

Re: Lets see your LAPSTEEL!
Is there any reason I couldn't get some pine, poplar or oak from Home Depot and turn it into a lap steel?
I mean, like, in terms of construction. I wouldn't expect it to be high-quality toanwood or whatever.
I saw some pine stair tread that looked good and felt dry...

I think you can probably turn almost any slab of wood into a lap steel.

no reason at all, go for it, as long as it is strong enough to hold the hardware.

The body on mine is a piece of pine from a old book shelf.. also weren't 40's fenders pine? or was that just tele prototype thing? Hell I've seen skateboards turned into lapsteels.

i've seen lap steels made of Masonite, and the old Rickenbacker that David Lindley used and i covet was made of Bakelite.
