Sad dad synth setup advice

So After a long time of procrastination and laziness as well as buying and selling tons of shit I have decided I wanna give this whole solo electronic music thing another go. As of right now I have a minilogue, an iPad with patterning, and some no midi units (Yamaha cp35 an old pocket piano). I also have a decent recording setup but am currently shopping around for a daw.

So what I’m looking for is advice on where to go like:

Best budget way to sync iPad and synth for midi.

What is a decent way to expand (like are the pocket operators any good? I had a volca beats and didn’t really care for it but wouldn’t mind trying the op’s especially the bass and volca and sampler ones)

How do I sample, like honestly? Is there an idiot proof app or hardware that I can get to make this easy?

Lotta dumb questions I know but I have limited free time so things that I can just grab and go without diving too much are great.

What’s your interface? I can plug mine into iPad with a powered hub via cck and it works great for midi and audio between everything. I also bought the app AUM to help routing and it seems to work great, but I haven’t used it that much yet.

Still working on this and need some thoughts.

iPad is dead and would rather go hardware Han fix that.

Def looking for a drum machine. Maybe the brute or impact? Just something bigger. Had the volca beats and did not like the layout at all. Open to any options and the cheaper the better.


Other than that thinking of the pocket operators for like the bass one and the vocal one cause sounds fun.

Without the iPad you don't have a sequencer. More expensive, but maybe Digitakt for seq, sampling, and drums?

I've been watching these for a few months and I wish they were cheaper, but...

All my minilogue bros seem to love the Roland TR8 for some reason.

The sequencer and arpeggiator on the minillgue make it a great standalone instrument. If all you have is a minilogue and some rando non-midi keyboards, I think the next thing you need is a drum machine of some kind. Then you can essentially have four layers of music to work with: drums, minilogue, rando-nonmidi keyboard, and vocals.

You can get a lot of milleage out of a setup like that. Ther POs are going to harder to sync with other things, but you’d be able to use the minilogue as a sync source. What didn’t you like about the Volca Beats?

The volca was honestly too small for me to use some times and that was annoying. Really wasn’t too into the sounds anyway. Also was using patternings in iPad at the time and found it to be better. But iPad is dead and it’s time to try something new

If it was just the sounds you didn’t like, then I’d get a Volca Sample. So, maybe one of the Arturia drum machines, or a Roland TR-8(S) would be a good way to go?

Also, the Akai Rhythm Wolf is STOOPID cheap and has big pads and knobs, unlike the Volcas.
But I know some people who don't really like the flow & feature set of them.
