Good to me = intensity, originality & fun.

Do I? yes... http://www.myspace.com/thedamnedgods

My setup is usually a Last Gasp Art laboratories hihachi shiki kebadate hizumaseki SUPER OSCILLO FUZZ" (88) into a Roland RE201, sometimes other stuff thrown in. I only record though, I have yet to play noise live...

How did I get into it...? Well my cousin had a friend who was/is a noise artist [Death Squad, Michael Nine, MK9, Trucido, Unit MK9] and they had a public access show in SanFran called The Pain Factor that put on noise acts, I got to go to a taping, I thought the whole thing was cool. Oh, also, the show once got put on the front page the the ent section of the SF times for showing a fake snuff fim :thumb: This was like 96-97ish I think...

What's the deal with all the hardcore porn/sexual imagery in noise music?

;)

I am particularly proud of the track I submitted to the first TB noise comp. Here's a direct link to it if you're interested.

NOTE: This is WAY better with headphones, or if you're physically sitting between the L and R channel speakers.

the hardcore porn/sexual imagery/S&M stuff is mostly Power Electronics. mostly. & its such a cliche to the point that its almost comical. just a bunch of sexually frustrated/repressed nerds that aren't never gonna get no pussy so they make a P.E. track about it & put some cut & paste bondage porn on the cover of their release. 99% are a bunch of fake tough guys. all talk & no bite.

Very true... sadly... or not...
One of the first noise acts I saw though was a dude with mics taped to amps to get the noise [which was boring] and then they had a guy in a geen rubber mask being beaten by a very plump Dominatrix... which would have been less boring if she had really HIT him with that wip... :animal:

most ppl that don't really "understand" noise immediately become self-consciously dismissive & reflexively end up calling most noise boring & stereotyping noise dudes as "knob twiddlers w/ expensive equipment" which is just totally off-base & close-minded.

i basically dug noise becuz during the aughties that's where the ideas were. that's where the boundary pushing was going on. noise was visceral. & immediate. no publicists. advance hype. hype. event. post-event coverage. no MP3 blog hype. or over-saturation. no pretension. none of that. what you saw what you got--

& its funny. ppl are conditioned/hardwired for Empty Calories and INSTANT GRATIFICATION. so i mean you can tell where i'm going w/ this so i won't expound. not saying noise is an acquired taste. but...

i mean are talking about Noise or are we talking about Noise Pop, Noise Rock, Indie Rock dudes w/ well placed "noise" guitar freakouts or what. IDK. are we talking about 'Noise Music' made w/ usable, musical context pedals or what are we talking about here.

Again I do agree. what I find boring is people with no ideas doing what everyone else does the first time they try...

That is why on the Second noise comp for TB after reading all this "I need more pedals so I can do a noise song :whateva: " crap I grabbed a letter opener and a bass and just did what came to mind. All I added was a bit of verb after the fact. But to me with any art you either have something to say or not, and what they are or not say either grabs you or not.

I don't know if it is music or not. I don't care. I use what ever I want to to do what I want to and that's it.

And I'm not saying I am or any one else is any "good" at it, what ever it is. Again to me it's the fun factor.

that's kind of one of the thing i like about noise. the ppl w/ ideas that really have forged their own sound as opposed to someone w/a chain high-gain dirt & typical noise pedals. everytime i see a Grunge or Death Metal in someones set up (or a Buzz Box/Corrosion/MeatBox) i just immediately roll my eyes...

Love noise, but I can understand how it might be annoying for some to listen, but good noise, keeps you in to it. It's really subjective. I love it, love playing it. I've slowly become less into guitar, and more into sounds, so noise is an exploration into finding a middle ground.

Yarp. My first real noise experiment was "performed" with a P-bass, an empty beer bottle, and a Boss Bass Overdrive. Oh, and the wall I kept running into (on purpose).

I think that's everyone from here...? The first was good, but it seemed that several people had no idea what noise actually was. Which is fine, but it diluted the point. The second one was much more consistent. And of course I didn't even submit an actual noise track for that one.

I do! It is what comes out of me. The physical involvement. Performing. Just like every other type of music I enjoy: it IS, or it ISN'T, there is no justification. Basses, feet, walls, slides, oscillating fuzz pedals, hands, ring mods, delays, and anything else I feel like mutilating at the moment. When I got angry with my first fuzz pedal, and then I started taking it more seriously once I heard Gruntsplatter. I have no idea.
