buyer wants to paypal business not gift. problem?

Post by ProCarsteNation »

Is it, though?
I think I remember stories where the buyer then reverts payment and all kind of pedal-losing mayhem ensues...

It might be their own precaution. I think the "buyer" assumes all responsibility when it's a PPG. :idk:

true, once a gift always a gift....

So if the buyer pays the fee, I have nothing to fear?

As weebles stated, it's my understanding is that paypal gift leaves the person who sends money absolutely no recourse if the deal goes south. In the above board "business" transaction there are protections for both parties, is that the same as saying you have nothing to fear? No, someone can always find something to fear in a long distance transaction; but I wouldn't worry about it.

Read up on paypal seller protections if you're still concerned, and just make sure you adhere to the criteria that allows seller protections.

Asking for someone to do PayPal gift is essentially asking the buyer to lie about the nature of the transaction to PayPal and surrender any of their rights to recourse in order to save you a fairly negligible amount of money. As a buyer, it's a nice thing to do if you know and/or trust someone. But the buyer has no recourse at all if you don't send the item. You could totally rip them off. It's entirely reasonable when buying from a stranger to want to leave a dispute resolution process in place. I'm usually fine with doing gift with people I feel good about, but it's not something to be expected. Charge $4 more or whatever if it's a problem. And charge for insured shipping. Yes, they could try to screw you, but there's a resolution process that considers your interests as well. With gift, they've got nothing.

I always toss on a few bux and send regular if I've never done business with someone before. saving money via gift is always cool, but sometimes I rather be 'sure'
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

Allright, thanks for the input guys!
I was just so used to gifting from ILF that the question confused me.
buyer offered to pay some extra, so we're doing it that way :)
