Well shit - new EHX modulation pedal

Post by Sonaboy »

I was shopping for something just like this a little while ago. I settled on a Zoom MS70 CDR, which is no doubt much cheaper than this one, but uhhh.....wow. EHX continuing to kill it.

Man, if this was in a Timebender-type enclosure I'd be all over it.
Since I always forget:

I only missing one thing: midi out, and maybe a jack for an external switch to i.e. control the preset selection. I think if they used 3.5mm jacks for the clock in (and eventually out, due to the less space such jacks take) instead of 1/4", this would have made the unit also more interesting for the modular synth folks (ok is something you can easily solve with an adapter).
But somehow seams an interesting unit, but not something which I would buy.

Well, they're certainly priced the same. I guess if you prefer pushbutton functionality instead of menu diving/computer editing, this is your speed.

It seems cool, but that wall of Sovteks can't possibly be necessary for that video.

Honestly dudes the md 500 sounds like sterile piss. The dd 500 is better for modulation IMO (set the delay to 1 ms and go nuts with assigns, or just coax a chorus/flange/vibrato out of it). I couldnt get the thing to cut in a mix proper at all without heavily messing with the eq on my amps. Like the assign functions on the md 500 dont make much sense because you cant mess with a bunch of the parameters for some modes...but whatever i just hate that thing. The demos of it sound awesome but it was super disappointing. Tried really hard to love it.

The mod rex seems awesome tho. Lots of a goatkeeperesque potential. I am missing a trem right now.. And its super flexible.
Would love to try it out
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

It's hard to judge anything from that video 'cause almost every sound in it is unpleasant, pedal or no.
solo (mostly ambient): https://heraclitusakimbo.bandcamp.com/
duo (electroacoustic vibration exploration): https://wenderlypark.bandcamp.com/
trio (tapes/voice/clarinet/synth/poems): https://ourwaytofall.bandcamp.com/

I really would love the panning but I'm wondering if I can just away with a cheap boss to get that done. Really cool pedal though, I'm not sure if I'm more interested in it for guitar or synth duties, I think this would kill at making some cool electronic stuff

Those traffic light green, yellow and red LEDs on that sexy midnight blue makes my designer heart sad.

The mod side sounds pretty disappointing in the vid, imo, like the discount fx on the Superego+. :idk:

Thanks for the md-500 info. The less I menu-dive, the better, anyway. The multiple modulations at once in a friendly interface are the appeal on the mod rex. Just hope it is true stereo/dual mono.
