Has anyone else directly compared the latest EHX Muff reissues with their boutique equivalents? I recently A/B'd a Fredric Effects ICBM and EHX Op Amp RI and was surprised at how different their respective tone control tapers, output levels, and bass EQ curves were. The next Muff-off will incorporate a Way Huge Russian Pickle and EHX Green Russian reissue when the latter of the two arrives.

^^ worth trying a fredric green coz they are amazing and quite un-muffy in some ways.

The Frederic is amazing, but the volume drop was just too much for.me to use regularly.

If there's a volume drop it's broken and I'll fix it ;-)

The Fredric Russian BMP is definitely on my radar. Based on my experience with the ICBM, I would imagine that the max output level would be lower than its EHX equivalent, but certainly capable of exceeding unity gain at higher settings.

I know it's a cost/profit thing, but I would've loved EHX to reissue each muff version as actual replicas of the old one, with big enclosures and original graphics and everything. Just sayin. I'd be cool :idk:

For sure Sherm.. the big box muffs are so sweet. I even put mine in at least a 125B just to nod to the needlessly sized enclosure..

It IS massive and heavy as fuck, but dudes looking for that silly high-gain sizzle might be disappointed. That being said, it is fantastic at what it does and excellent for bass.
It’s definitely more of a sledgehammer than a high gain sizzle sort of thing even with the tone maxed. It does have a ton of gain though.

In theory I agree, but my giant ass tall font is kind of a pain to actually have on my board. I imagine there's no small number of people who would take pedal board friendly and under $100 over the vintage correct enclosure. Although, as I said in the other thread, it kind of drives me nuts that the knobs are the wrong triangle on the triangle re-issue, although that's also obviously a cost saving measure with where the power jacks on those enclosures are.

True. It is difficult to dial in that sweet bees in a can tone on that thing.

£95 for the triangle reissue? I thought the whole point of these reissues was to undercut prices of boutique muffs since they're a mass-production company? The GR was £65-75 so why the price hike on a mass produced pedal they already have the circuit and enclosure template for? Santa's cigars must be getting expensive.
