Anyone use pedals as outboard gear on their recordings and got some secrets to share?
Kick through a Meatbox? Snare and gated fuzz?
Vocals through a glitch pedal?

Re: Pedals as outboard gear?
Some experience from me:
On a session with one of my bands a couple of months ago the drums sounded a little too vanilla.
So we re-amped the kick and toms through a Damage Control Demonizer adding tube overdrive and compression.
We also re-amped the knee/crotch/kit-mic(an old Sennheiser dynamic omni mic which had already been crushed by a Distressor on its way in to the DAW) through this chain:
Pladask FORM set for texture reverb 100% wet > Mooer Rat > Pladask Fabrikat(to bring some glitch in a chaotic part) > Boss RV-3(for delay and stereo split).
Both tracks sounds super rad!

YES YES
YES
My go to is DMM for vox, blended with natural small roomspace reverb like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ6yS71j-cw
Also BitQuest set to patch 6 - clean mode.
The 3 control knobs each become useful alone or together.
Ctrl 0: LFO (trem)
Ctrl 1: Ring freq
Ctrl 2: Reverb
Stick that in a cheap mixer's aux send and you've got 3 simple, useful effects on demand that sound great without switching patches...or much fiddling work at all, plus tonestack, boost/atten, wet/dry blend.

Are you going straight from your interface through the gear and right back in again?

Re: Pedals as outboard gear?
i've been using different "amp in a box" style pedals for awhile as outboard gear.
i had em hooked up an inserts for awhile, basically using them as preamps for recording everything
synths, drum machines, samplers, vocals.
the grit, punch and EQ is really nice for making shit pop
now i got a newer mixer w/ an fx loop so i've been using it like that and blending it in, even better.
i also like to use my SP404 or similar b/c it has a variety of FX and i like how a lot of them sound

Re: Pedals as outboard gear?
I've put drums through filter and ring mod pedals, before I had "pro" outboard versions of either.
Prince reportedly ran a lot of things through his various Boss pedals at one point, I think around the time of Purple Rain and earlier.

Re: Pedals as outboard gear?
I've used quite a few pedals as outboard gear (PH-1r and Meteore is all over my cassette EP) but I think my favorite is the SSBS mini on vocals and drums. Just dial in the desired gain and bias and then blend back in with the original signal.
My music:

Yep. SS/BS Mini and Pretty Years, Warped Vinyl MkI, Fairfield Meet Maude and Boss LM-2. Used to use an El Cap a heap but sold it in favour of plugins (EchoBoy and Live 10's Echo).
