Also, do you run a preamp pedal into the preamp of your bass amp, or straight into the power section?

I use a Darkglass B7K into the input of my bass amp.

Ah sweet, thanks man. If you were using fuzz/fuzzstortion on your bass chain, where would you stick it? Before the Darkglass or between it and your amp?

Also, that board is rad and colour coordinated. Much awesomeness.

Whelp the TC Sub'n'Up laid waste to the Pitch Fork for my purposes with its myriad adjustable EQs and other parameters in the Toneprint Editor. Was able to set up for separate EQ chains to make the bass guitar sound as realistic as possible.

1. Cut 25Hz on the input by 5db with a low shelf to improve tracking
2. Boost 1K on the input to add brightness and clarity from the source
3. Boost 3K after the pitch shift to emphasize pick attack and retain some of that bass guitar string noise sound
4. Boost 400Hz after the pitch shift to give the bass punch and fullness.

Then I was also able to change the Sub 2 control into a drive control for the low octave to give it a tubey warmth before it hits the compressor. Cant wait to hear much improved bass tone on tour next week!

Nice! I saw your board had added the Sub N Up and was wondering what you think. Really could've used a Sub N zip in my old band like 8-years ago.

This thread has become relevant to current interests. Is the Sub N Up still supreme? I don't like mini pedals much but I see they micro sized it too. Curious about the Ricochet too, just for octave down basically.

I liked the Ricocchet a lot. I have a Pitchfork now but only because I got a great deal on it. Could flip/trade it for a Ricocchet if I don’t end up liking it. The ability to adjust the rise and fall of the pitch is slick.

The Sub 'n' Up is still what I use because you can add a lot of pre and post EQ in the Toneprint editor to make the pedal a better emulation of bass when it doesn't have the support of your dry signal. The actual octave down tone on a lot of octave pedals is extremely dark and muddy. The Sub 'n' Up can be made to sound a lot closer to reality. This is my current board:



I have some Ricochets at home which are cool for their level of adjustment but they take 300ma and when in momentary there is noticeable signal lag. When using two of them, forget it. You'll end up with at least 10ms of delay which is awkward when playing. The PS5 and Pitch Fork don't have any noticeable lag in momentary and take a LOT less power. Everything on this board is powered by one Pedal Power 4x4.

Thanks for the opinions. Not sure I will pursue this idea. The guitar sounds on the recording of my duo's last jam is a little underwhelming and it was the first time running two amps in this situation. There are complications to overcome but maybe the biggest issue is that I am not sure I want to lug a 2nd amp to shows.

I used to have a Micro POG, then a EQD PitchBay untill I sold both and got the DROP.
Before getting the Drop I tried it out in a guitar shop together with a PitchFork.
The Drop suits better my needs, tracks better and sound fatter than the PF, IMHO.
The PF has this kind of woody tone, which is common to all the octave down effects from EHX (POG, RingThing, etc...), which I don't like it so much actually. It has bite, but to me sounds to artificial.
