To Tame a Flange
So I love my Starlight v2, but I sorely wish it had a volume or blend knob, because I find it very difficult to use without overpowering everything else and feeding back all over the place. It's also the only flange I've ever used, so I'm not sure if this just a Flange Thing or what. But what I'm wondering is the best (easiest/cheapest) way to balance things a little bit.
In case it matters, the chain is something like DD3>Muff>Phase 90>Starlight>Aria Analog Delay>DD5>RC3>amp(s). There are other pedals (chorus, Rat) that drift in and out, but that's the basics.
Thanks in advance for considering what I suspect might be an obvious question...

That's weird... on my side I think it lack of volume.

Clean blends can work wonders on flangers. My Boss BF-2 was modded to have one and it certainly helps on more extreme settings. I'm no DIY expert but if you could have it modded with a simple clean blend knob that would probably get it where you want it to be.

Given the different reactions you get from Syl, I'm thinking that one (or both) of you need a trimpot adjusted.

The purple trimpot? I have no idea - I've never been in there, and I bought it used. This never even occurred to me - I guess I'll have to dig into it when I get home from work and see!goroth wrote:How high do you have the regen?

I don't know anything about DIY, but that is certainly an appealing idea. I'll have to ask around...Ghost Hip wrote:Clean blends can work wonders on flangers. Re: To Tame a Flange
Maybe we should send Brian an email to know what the trimpot is doing.
Edit:
I just sent him an email. Will let you know.

Hey, thanks! Here's the page of the manual that describes the trimpotssylnau wrote:Maybe we should send Brian an email to know what the trimpot is doing.

Here:
There are two trimmers. One is for maximum feedback. The other is for clock rate for the flanger delay line.

I think goroth just meant like turn down the regen knob. Flange gets overwhelming in a hurry, try setting it at low depth too.

This is why I love my Bitquest for flanging. It doesn't get as weird as my analog flangers, but the clean blend lets me set it super subtle. It's what converted me.

Re: To Tame a Flange
I guess that's a lot more obvious! Still, I went on and tweaked the trim pot down a bit and things seem to be under control. It was a lot of fun, actually - I'll have to play with I think more.friendship wrote:I think goroth just meant like turn down the regen knob. Does anyone know why Subdecay warns against tweaking the other pot?
