hate wearing glasses. contacts are nifty, i always forget to take them out at night, woot eyeball pain.
my only real fear of getting Lasiks is what happened to my mawmz, who was as badly near-sighted as i am, where she had near 20/20 vision for distance, but had never had problems seeing for the first foot of vision, and now needs glasses for close up looky times.
been reading allllll the things i can online before going in and seeing if i can afford it right now, but...... thoughts? advice on which procedure to aim for? things to be aware of?

Re: Lasiiiiiks?
I got it done in 2007. I always had one eye with poor vision and one with 20/15, the good one started declining to the point where I needed glasses for almost everything. I could never do contacts, tried for years but I couldn't make my eye stay open to put them in. LASIK was the best $4200 I've ever put on a credit card at 20%.
Took about 48 hours to heal after the procedure, I had none of the negative effects (ghosting/halos/etc.) but I was 25 when I had it done so maybe young eyes helped. I think my vision's gotten a little worse in the interim but it's still sharp at distance and I think the closer stuff is just aging and computer/phone usage.

Re: Lasiiiiiks?
My dad had his done 3 times, now wears glasses.
My sister had it done twice, now wears glasses.
My cousin had it once, now wears glasses.
My wife had it done once as well, now wears glasses.
All different doctors.
After just two years my wife's eyes needed a revision, which was past the warranty period (of course). My dad had it done to the point of where they said they couldn't do it again.
It's a cool technology but I don't think they've quite perfected it. Personally, I'd rather wear glasses (and do).

Re: Lasiiiiiks?
It doesn't mean you wont need glasses in the future (I'm not responding to Jwar, just commenting in general). Your vision can continue to change as you get older. So people do get LASIK and wear glasses later in life (considered normal).
In the fine print, the clinics advise against doing it, if you rely on your vision to earn a living. Isn't that everybody?

Re: Lasiiiiiks?
lol. short and to the point. i LIKE IT.
someone pm'd me and suggested looking into implantable contacts as well, i'm going to research that a bit too.
Jwarious - it IS a fear that i could go from not needing glasses for close stuff to being fine 80% of the time, fucked when i need Attack Range Vision.
i actually SUPER want the corrective vision artificial cornea replacement that i thought was supposed to be available by now. i can find barely anything about it online any more though. close vision issues when getting older is usually caused by hardening of the corneas, which i believe lasers do not address yet, so just replacing the whole fucker with the correctly shaped permanent non cataract non hardening upgrade?
yes PLEASE.
would like THAT.
....... then an additional upgrade to get a personal HUD for displaying video or pertinent contextual data or web access display or...... yeah.
OH YEAH.

I went in for a consultation. Check out Craig Bindi since you’re in the Bay. He seems to be the best.
He suggested I get PRK - I told him I’m interested in getting into martial arts - because of the inability for the corneal flap to become dislodged. PRK doesn’t create a flap like regular LASIK does.
I haven’t made an appointment yet but want to. Tired of glasses.

I got Lasik done in 2008 and going strong 10 years on. Easy peasy.
