Calling PO-33 users...

Post by niftyprose »

Hi guys, subject line says it all. I want to play around with sampling and the Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator PO-33 looks like a good way in. But whenever I add a new effect to the chain I start thinking about taking another resource out of it. In this particular case, it strikes me that the PO-33 could probably manage a freeze-type sound, enabling me to retire the DOD DFX91 (which is kind of a one trick pony for me). Can anyone confirm about the freezeability of the PO33? TIA. NP,

you cannot use the FX live. it only effects samples and when the sequencer is running.

Thanks, Dr. Sticks. I guess this is one of those cases where 'live' is not entirely unambiguous. I know it's not as easy as hitting a footswitch, but I figured I might be able to sample a short loop and then trigger playback in real time. Whaddayathink? NP

oh i think i see. ya i wasn't sure if i was reading u right. replied rather quickly. thought u were talking about using the built in FX.

u can't loop samples so wouldn't really be a freeze/repeater type of thing. one shot only.
of course it would be possible but a lil clunky probably.
to sample u have to hit rec and then one of the 16 slots.

i like my PO33 a lot tho. so much so that i bought two after i figured out that u could swap the jumpy pots for better ones.
i am a bit of a sampler junky :)

Thanks, Dr. Sticks. Li'l clunky is OK, really it is. (Nobody said this was gonna be easy.) BTW, I missed your last Instagram due to traffic, or would have bought a Purple Rain. Second best would be for Knobs to do a demo, hint hint. Best, NP

I've been thinking about checking this out, too.
As a sampler junky, how do you think it compares to the Microgranny. It seems like the closest thing on the market as a standalone thing with microphone and speaker and I like that about it.

Also, niftyprose, you don't need to initial your posts. :)* Welcome to the forum.

micro granny is different in some ways. monophonic. grain. no filters/fx. no sequencer. amp envelope.
but can store lots of samples on the microSD card. 900+ some sounds per card using the two character alphanumeric naming convention.

personally i have like a gang of cards that i made filled up w/ sounds for MG. i use the MG a lot to manipulate and then feed other samplers that i then can turn into beats or songs.
has a great sound flavor to it that i really dig.

lots of different ways to use these things tho. get one (or both) and try them out see what fits you
