We have actually recorded such a 'whirly tube' and used it in our band before on this track: http://thehowlensemble.bandcamp.com/track/apocalypso
It comes in around 4:03. We pitch-shifted it to match the key and added an effect in Ableton to turn the smooth gliss between the tubes various pitches into a more 'blocky' effect ( I don't know the correct music theory term that denotes the opposite for glissando )

Cool song ...

Record and post it!
I have it !
I shall do some recording this week and put up a tune sometime soon.
I have one of those^
You can get them at walmart and dollar general some times.
...Put one in a pedal, and you'd end up with something like a DBA Robot
First recording using the megaphone - I got my daughter to play with it briefly and then had a play with that in Audacity.
I was pleased with the result, but when I offered her the chance to listen to the whole tune on YouTube she said she'd heard enough (to be fair, she is only 5)

That, and I was seeing what I could conjure out of the one minute 11 seconds of sound my daughter was prepared to give me before she'd had enough (hence the title), so there's a straight loop of her + megaphone, a track of a short phrase really slowed down and a third track that pops in and out which was sped up a little and pitch-shifted even higher, plus all sorts of different effects thrown at it each time it pops up.
Was conflicted whether to put this here or in the Purple thread...
Not utterly trash. At least, not for $4. The "turntable" is actually a speed controller for the sound files it plays, so it's almost like it's pre-glitched.

I thought about picking one of this up the other day, although it was a rebranded one for a higher price... If you can load in your own sound files, using this as a super basic Kaoss Pad sounds pretty fun.
These things can both definitely be found cheaper too, just wanted to showcase some of the cooler stuff. There are many cheapo synths and noisemakers. It's a giantrabbithole.

Wow, I've looked at weird instruments on etsy before, but I had no idea that I wanted that natural finish Telecaster uke SO FREAKING BADLY!!!
