ILF Tonebender?

Post by RobV »

Anyone have any idea who/what/where? I just traded a Lovepedal Superlead for it since I had no Fuzz and 3 MIB's.

What is wrong with those? Legit question.

That brand makes me feel uncomfortable for some reason :erm:

Questionable sales tactics, mostly. Cheap build quality, generally. Lies to other builders about cloning. Lots of internal rebranding to generate sales. Buying from local venders and doubling/tripling the resale price (while preaching they hate the model of business places like Prymaxe and GC float)... Oh, lots of noise, whether it be white noise or radio station pickup. And most of the circuits are straight rips off of another design without any credit given or acknowledgement of where the original idea originated, etc.. I just think there are better brands to spend your money on.

I heard lovepedal has like 5 pedals that are just Electra distortions with a couple component changes... I can say for sure at least 2.. Haha.

Every COT iteration is an electra distortion, so... However many "versions" are floating around.

Then you have the LM386 based distortion. (3? 4?)

The SoS/TS line. (no telling, includes Eternity and Zen Drive)

Joe Gagan Easyface ripoffs (at least 4 base models, not including their variants)

Timmy rip-offs (4, at least)

Escobedo Triple Fuzz ripoff (5, at least)

More, I'm sure.

The missing context here is when Lovepedal first started making this stuff you couldn't buy a lot of these now-common DIY circuits anywhere. In 2018 it looks like an annoying business model followed by dozens of hype builders. But in 2004 these circuits weren't well-known at all and Sean was building them well and meeting a demand in the market. There was def hype and high prices but it wasn't as bad as Freekish Blues or anything.

I think it’s pretty disrespectful to tell a builder (PaulC) that you will stop making a clone, and then continue to make said clone under a different product name. That’s right up there.

I also think it’s disrespectful to tell your customers they’re getting a discount, when that discount is on the dealer price and really just equates to what most builders get using distributors. But that’s more of an informed consumer issue.

The context from 2004 doesn't have anything to do with his 2018 lineup and business practices either :idk: :poke: :hello:

Its pointing out that the guy has been making those circuits for 15 years and its not like he just started packaging common DIY circuits into pro pedals recently. The market's perception of an electra OD has just changed from "this thing sounds incredible" in 2004 to "this has 5 parts why is it $200" in 2018.

Paul C has definitely been ripped off by a lot of folks and that blows.
