Trying to work out the layout for a new board always starts with graph paper! I assume this isn't a unique quirk for me?

Incidentally, anyone know the dimensions of a Generation Loss or a Mini?

Mini is a 1590B (Ct5 sized), Generation Loss is a 1590BB (Shigeharu sized).

I did that for a while when I was making my own boards out of plywood. Traced the pedals and wrote their dimensions in the box, too.

Nah, I do this at work when it's slow. I usually draw little knobs on them and get all detailed with it then I'll cut em out and place em around on a drawn up pedalboard. My job is very boring.

I do some version of this while sitting in class. The biggest thing I'm always worried about is cable routing, so I always mark that on there as well. If I had a couple long cables this wouldn't be a problem, but as is it is quite tricky to get the top and bottom rows to work together when almost everything is topmount jacks.

Oh, yeah, the picture above is just the pedals prior to being cut out and arranged as a board. The footprint I've given each pedal includes any relevant cable bulk too (or additional clearance in the case of the 4E), which is why the Chase Bliss pedals look nearly square. Those sidejacks really bulk up their profile, especially when using them with MIDI.

I've owned so many pedals and flipped stuff out on boards that I can mentally do it for the most part. I prefer to go direct to a board however versus a plan like this.

I just wait until I have everything on hand and then start setting stuff up on the floor. Then it all gets dual locked to a board and wired up. But my current board configuration has been in place for a few years now with most changes just requiring some cable rerouting.

I applaud your HCFX era planning though. I feel like most people who want to visualize stuff like this in 2018 just use one of the online board layout sites.

That's fair. I'm mostly doing this right now to figure out what size board I should get. Boards this big are expensive, so I'm trying to make sure I have a plan before shelling out for an upgrade.

I applaud your HCFX era planning though. I feel like most people who want to visualize stuff like this in 2018 just use one of the online board layout sites.

I've tried a few of those sites, but they never seem to have all the pedals I need preloaded, and honestly it just feels easier to rearrange stuff by hand with little bits of paper. I'm also not 100% set on my dirt and reverb siutations yet, so this helps me play around with different configurations of options relatively quickly.

Pedalboard planner sites fucking suck, too, because they never get the dimensions right and they always manage to miss a bunch of pedals.
I usually find out the measurements and map it out on graph paper where, like, 1 sq.=1 in^2 or something.

If you want a good sized board for not a ridiculous price. Hit up Tone Snob. He was super reasonable. He'll even make you a case. I had him make me a PT Grande Sized board. I just recently stopped using it.

FWIW I'd build that rig on a pair of PT2s. A single big board gets really unwieldy.

Most have a misc section with blank pedals where you can change the size. And your config stays when you go back so you can work on and off without losing your place.
