I always thought communication breakdown was a sweet punk song.

Also, how can you be picky about sloppy playing on a fuzz forum?
Page doesn't give a fuck about precision and neither does rock and roll. If you want precision then you don't want fuzz.

"I don’t like bass players that go boppity boppity bop all over the neck; you should stay around the bottom and provide the end of the group. I work very closely with the drummer; it’s very important. "

Gilmour used fuzz. He was a very precise player. And yet he wasn't a vai/satriani/yngwie shredder.

I wasn't referring to psychedelic space rock at all. I don't think precision is a negative aspect of music. However I do think being picky about sloppy guitarist is silly when we all love fuzz.

I don't mean that ANY sloppiness makes you a talentless hack. I just think that a few of Page's solos are SO sloppy, that they're a bit painful for me to listen to. Like out of tune, and/or flubbed notes kind of sloppy. And it's quite possible that he was just too messed up to care at the time. It certainly didn't sound like a stylistic decision to me. That's all I was saying.

Re: Is anyone else here...
I was just poking fun at JPJ regarding hanging out in the low-end. Kind of a "Here I am, oh it's that kind of place, here I go." Thanks, Grampa Simpson.
(I also just came across that .gif and found it hilarious with the cowboy Homer head)
While I agree that bass does require some rhythmic work, locked in with the drummer, I also think this stance regarding the role of bass is archaic and no longer the case. ESPECIALLY from someone as melodic and talented as JPJ.
Everything in it's right place, and it's all a matter of balance, of course.

Ah I see, I just thought it was a cool quote to know why he plays the way he does, not that it was the ultimate cool be all bass technique.

Yeah Page was pretty fucked. I must've caught the wrong vibe off bub's and your posts. As I've said before I'm not big on Zeppelin but I really enjoy their first album and bits and pieces of II-IV. But hell i love watching The Vines play live so sloppiness doesn't really bother me.

I lul'd fer realz.
As for classic rock...I'm put off by most of it because it's a bunch of dudes high off their asses jerking off with guitars.
Which also explains the sloppy playing.
