They are pretty different things though. The Roli stuff is a fancy MIDI controller at its core, while the OP-1 is like a mini DAW in hardware form. The Roli stuff on its own doesn't produce sound. I think it comes with some software but it's not really an alternative to an OP-1.PeteeBee wrote:Does anyone mess with the roli seaboard or block stuff? Seems like a great op1 alternative. Maybe I just need an op1.
Word. I think I'd rather have something that produces sound on its own, just so that it doesn't necessarily have to be hooked up to something. Really I just want a portable synth solution that is really excellent. I've had a pocket piano and a volca fm which were fun, but I just wanted both of them to be a little more legit or something. IDK what it was exactly but neither really led to using them in songs, just making cool little bloops.greyscales wrote:They are pretty different things though. nice. You might have just sold me on one. Now just to convince my wallet.greyscales wrote:Yeah, that's the same rationale that ended up with me getting an OP-1. No regrets, it's been one of my best purchases ever.
It's one of those devices where you can approach it with different needs. 4 track tape recorder, 6 voice synth, drum machine, sampler. I think it's hard to find much more bang for the buck. It isn't perfect but you learn to work with the limitations.

They're fun, give it a shotDandolin wrote:OK, so now apparently I'm supposed to really *really* want an Ibanez FZ7? Because I do. I really do.![]()
Blocks are fun, but certain things like the lack of expression on the top notes (due to lack of physical space) and the absolute reliance on the NOISE app in iOS made me not be too hot on them. I haven't tried the small version of the seaboard but the larger one was fantastic once I got used to it. Your mileage might be different on PC though.PeteeBee wrote:Does anyone mess with the roli seaboard or block stuff? Seems like a great op1 alternative. Maybe I just need an op1.
