I agree on the previous comment about shredder solos as I used to listen to them...

I have the old vinyl of that one with the hermit dude on the cover... IV? Never seemed to make an impact really... I can say the only ones I've really enjoyed were Kashmir and When the Levee Breaks... Maybe you guys can show me some othars? I also think there's one where he uses a blue box, I give him props for that.

Nah, these guys will always have a place in my heart. Sure, I don't listen to them nearly as much as I did when I was 13, but every once in a while I'll throw on one of their records and I still enjoy it. I will say this though, I think they were about to jump the shark big time when Bonham died.

Haha, love this. The solo to stairway was played on a telecaster. Led Zep = Boss. Jimmy Page was sloppy playing leads, but it definitely was a stylistic decision, not an inability to play. I mean just listen to all their acoustic numbers Going To California, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, the Mandolin on Battle of Evermore. That was a person who had an immense, intuitive understand of the instrument. Further, before Page was in the Yardbirds or Zep, he was a studio musician.

Blur, listen to Achilles' Last Stand from Presence. It is an unbelievable song.

bubstance wrote:The only weak link (to me) in Led Zep is Page. He's sloppy (now he's terrible, the guy can hardly speak, let alone play. I know, I saw It Might Get Loud and he was far surpassed by both Edge and White) but his acoustic work used to be great. I personally prefer the might of John Paul Jones over Bonham or Page, simply because he's better. Plus I think that Them Crooked Vultures is the best shit I've heard in a long time, and a lot of that is because of the fact that JPJ fills out the space so well. The simple riffs are pounded home and sound heavy as fuck. Like, mammoth/tyrannosaurus heavy.

But again, that's just me.

Yeah. That was terrible. It reminded me of one of those videos where there's some random guy in his house playing shitty covers of shitty songs and everyone is going "oh my God dude, you're so fucking bad" only everyone thinks it's cool. I like noise as much as the next guy, buy when he's being heralded as some amazing composer/guitarist/musician, I'll tell them what I think. Jimmy Page sucks.

What? Did you ever even hear Black Mountain Side? Jimmy Page is freaking great. You're doing it wrong.
I'm just saying he's sloppy when he wants to be sloppy. When he wants to be tight, he's tight. And still awesome.
JPJ and Bonham are fantastic musicians too, but to say Jimmy Page isn't where it's at in Zeppelin is just silly. Jimmy Page practically is Led Zeppelin. I mean, he wrote most of the songs in the band. To like the band and not the songwriter doesn't make any sense. Not trying to bring the lulz (pretty sure my bro blurz was, though) or anything. Just saying that Page is not a shitty player. At all. If he was shitty, Zeppelin wouldn't have ever been famous.

Cuz who the fuck listens to Zeppelin for anything other than guitar, anyway? Don't be ridiculous.

Then again, he's not Steve Vai. But Steve Vai blows.
well i guess, but i just don't know.
