I've been on a bit of a funk kick recently. I've had the privilege of being in one pretty good funk band, and I'm probably gonna start another one. Anyone else into playing THA FAWNK, and what kind of gear do you like for it?
As far as keys/synths, the Korg DSS-1 gets pretty damn funky what with the analog filters and 16 detuned oscillators. I also had the privlege to play a Rhodes through a MF101 in my previous band, which was funky as all hells.
Guitar, gotta love the Strat/Jazz Chorus combo. The MF101 was pretty funky in that use, also.
I want a giant bunny and I want a bunch of regular bunnies and they will form a hive mind and the giant bunny will be the queen bunny and they will attack in swarms.
People are going to disagree but I also found that humbuckers and funk went hand in hand for me. Then again when I play funk it's more of a Latin Jazz funk hybrid.
I'm all about the funk - it's what I do best. Been playing it for years, as a matter of fact. Humbuckers and singles are both good for funk music! I've used a jaguar with 'buckers, a 90's Ibanez with lipstick pups, a tele, and semi hollows with humbuckers in various funky applications over the years. The beauty of funk is that all guitar tones are useable. Sly stone used singles, George Clinton used buckers. A tube amp, tho - freaking NECESSARY. Or a really good EQ would do as well.

I have seen George Clinton live a few years back in Australia. and his funk was all coming from some good smoke pass around stage....
