Best online stores?
Hey All,
There was an old topic on this, but wanted to start a fresh one.
What are the best online stores for effects, synths, weirdo sound machines, etc.?

Perfect Circuit Audio & Coast Sonic are my two favorite vendors.
I'm not a big fan of Switched On (Austin) and my last order with Analogue Haven was not fulfilled, so I can't give them an endorsement either.
Rock n' Roll Vintage (Chicago) does some 15% discounts on synths during the Reverb promotional sales. I've bought several pedals from Chicago Music Exchange & Sweetwater, but their pedal lines aren't as diverse as PCA & Coast Sonic.
Vintage King is a mixed bag. They have some cool lines & modular gear, but nothing too weird or rare. You can find Hologram, Meris, Empress, Chase Bliss, and other stuff there though. It's the little things that bother me about them---forgetting to send me tracking until it's already on the truck for delivery---agreeing to match a competitor's prices, but only if you agree to slash financing from 18 months to 6 months. Several of their phone sales guys are recycled over from Guitar Center, so it's not like you're getting the most-informed support staff.
Big City Music (LA) is a mixed bag, too. They have some cool stuff, but I just don't like Roger the owner.
There are certainly other places to check into like Control Voltage (Portland), Detroit Modular, Eastside Music Supply (Nashville), Axe & You Shall Receive (Canada), Sound Parcel (PA) and more.

Is Analogue Haven no longer in the running? (What's "not fulfilled", echorec?)

I’m a big fan of Prymaxe, I should have mentioned that in the original comment. Steve and his team give the best customer service I’ve experienced with any online store, and I say that even tho I’ve been waiting for the Caroline Meteore I bought two months ago to come back in stock (I don’t think it’s Prymaxe’s fault). They gave great promotions, contests, live chat etc. . Axeandyoushallrecieve seems to have rad stuff, but i’ve not actually ordered anything from them yet.

I saw one post saying they were assholez, a bunch saying they’re awesome, skipped to page 47 to see posts about eating ribs. Ain’t nobody got time for that.Chankgeez wrote:This thread may change your opinion of Prymaxe: viewtopic.php?f=149&t=27667&hilit=prymaxe
They’ve been awesome to me, everyone has their own subjective experience.

Re: Best online stores?
Most of the beef is they're undercutting everyone else by selling their products as "B-stock" and skirting MSRP with constant "15% off" sales to make fast sales and move stock. Some builders have stopped working with Prymaxe altogether.
And shipping in basic USPS envelopes rather than boxes.
While I think that's all valid criticism, I've made a few purchases from them without issues; probably won't going forward though.

Yeah, that's the main beef. It's their business model.
I can't really comment on their long-term customer service as I've only ever bought one pedal from 'em.

Re: Best online stores?
Last pedal I bought from them I paid a couple dollars extra to have it in a box, not a padded envelope. It was a used item, and I wasn't sure if it had a box or anything, so for obv reason...
Guess how it showed up? Padded envelope.
...it did come in the orig box though.

Ok, can someone start another separate “Prymaxe is assholez” thread, so this one, which is meant to be about rad online shops with weird stuff, can flourish or die on its own terms? Awesome, thanks!

Well excuse us
Haven't bought anything from these guys yet, but found them recently, and they seem to have a variety of stuff

Re: Best online stores?
You asked for "best online stores" and, IMO, Prymaxe definitely isn't one of 'em.Blood_mountain wrote:Ok, can someone start another separate “Prymaxe is assholez” thread, so this one, which is meant to be about rad online shops with weird stuff, can flourish or die on its own terms? Despite obviously not being what you wanna hear, it's relevant to the conversation.
Plus, Prymaxe attempt to carry everything. Not just the weird stuff.

Re: Best online stores?
And that's fine, I appreciate the perspective. I just don't want the thread to devolve into a dumping ground for negative opinions on any particular organization. I have had great experiences with Prymaxe, and others have not. Totally cool, let's move on. I'm interested to hear which online stores you do love. I'm genuinely super interested in hearing about the rad, well-known or obscure.Chankgeez wrote:You asked for "best online stores" and, IMO, Prymaxe definitely isn't one of 'em.Blood_mountain wrote:Ok, can someone start another separate “Prymaxe is assholez” thread, so this one, which is meant to be about rad online shops with weird stuff, can flourish or die on its own terms?
