What is a new texture of fuzz I can add to my collection?
So as I’ve acquired fuzzes over the years, I always try to get one that covers different textural ground, and try to avoid overlap of the tones they can make.
My current fuzzes are:
DBA fuzz war
SolidGoldFX If 6 was 9
JHS muffuletta
EHX op amp muff RI
EQD fuzzmaster general
WMD geiger counter
Jext Telez DizzyTone
Amptweaker tight fuzz (seems to overlap with If 6 was 9)
Termofuzz
What can I get next that is different than these? Really interested in the Fuzz Factory 7 and the FZ-2.
Also, as an afterthought, does anyone happen to know what circuit the Recovery Effects Sound Destruction Device is based on?

Sounds like you need a Super Fuzz variant. Find one with a voltage starve for maximum fuggery and street cred. The Fuzz Factory gets a lot of love ... and hate depending on who you talk to. Never used one myself but have been meaning to build one (they're pretty simple circuits).
Welcome to the forum BTW.

Thank you! Any superfuzz clones/inspired pedals you recommend?

I just picked up a Mellowtone wolf computer that I believe is a superfuzz variant. I like it far more than the fuzz factory I had years ago. Seems like it does the weird stuff that the fuzz factory is known for, but it's a lot easier to get really interesting, useable tones out of. Really easy to walk the line between oscillation and playing.

Behringer Superfuzz SF-300 for $25, I've used one plenty in a messy punk band with no issues in function or durability. It's a direct FZ-2 clone.gx1solo wrote:Thank you! Any superfuzz clones/inspired pedals you recommend?
If you wanna go boutique, I recently replaced the above with and Abominable Electronics Demon Lung and love it. That one has a clean blend, diode selector switch, and Mode on a footswitch.
If you're after one with a starve like the other person suggested, and with the option between Mode or Octave on the second footswitch, Smallsound/Bigsound Buzzz. No clean blend on that one, though.
I'd recommend getting the Behringer on Amazon with vacuum filters or whatever else you might happen to need from Amazon rn. See what you like about it and what you might want from a boutique, and then you'll be able to get something spensive and special, should you choose.

I built a BYOC Leeds Fuzz with a voltage starve and master (output) volume. Some of the freakier sounds are when it's not getting enough juice but you need to make up for some of the volume loss when the circuit is gasping for air. Even stock, though, it's loud AF.gx1solo wrote:Thank you! Any superfuzz clones/inspired pedals you recommend?
The Zvex Octane 3 is his take on the circuit if you want to go that route.

Any thougts on the Black Cat superfuzz? In the demos I’m hearing on YT it sounds pretty good. I’d want to get something where the octaving effect was more subtle, or controllable, because I feel like my fuzzmaster general covers that really prominent octave fuzz sound already. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a superfuzz clone though.

You seem to have all classics covered.. I know it's more of a distortion than a fuzz but maybe try a RAT ?

+1 on the Smallsound Bigsound Buzzz rec. Also check the Dwarfcraft Necromancer. I had a Black Cat Superfuzz in my possession, it was pretty trebly and not as tweakable as the Buzzz.

The EQD Fuzz Master General is based on the Ace Tone FM-2 which is a super fuzz variant. Maybe get a companion fuzz of some sort?

Do you have something that will cop 60s surf/psych/garage sounds like a fuzzrite/orpheum/os mutantes thing?

I do really dig the Silver Rose V2, I know the Necromancer is the superfuzz side of that. Silver Rose has been on my radar for a little bit.codetocontra wrote:+1 on the Smallsound Bigsound Buzzz rec. I feel like the Jext Telez DizzyTone covers that territory a bit, though not entirely similar to Fuzzrite sounds.MechaGodzilla wrote:Do you have something that will cop 60s surf/psych/garage sounds like a fuzzrite/orpheum/os mutantes thing?

Re: What is a new texture of fuzz I can add to my collection
I love odd fuzz textures.
My Superfuzz of choice is the Basic Audio version. It has a few very useful tweaks.
Montreal Assembly You're and Your is cool, and fairly cheap.
Some sort of Brassmaster clone (Malekko B:Assmaster, VFE Woodchipper)
Something in the PTD Bone family (Minibone, Bonemachine, Rotobone)
Basic Audio Zippy
Basic Audio Fuzz Mutant
Basic Audio Bye Bias

+1 on a Brassmaster. Brassmasters rip hard. I use mine with an octave down Pog in front of it for all-out balls-to-the-wall heaviness.
