The important thing is that it's built on a foundation of purple.

Thoughts...

1) As a naked effect, the demoers make it sound somewhat thin at times, because they either a) don't know how to use flangers b) have the various pots too low. When it got weirder, it tended to sound undeniably digital. Hopefully this can be smoothed out at-home.

2) I wish someone would start doing proper synth demos. The SonicState demo was so frustrating---too much talking & too much tinkering. Slow, hypnotic pads is all I wanted to hear---not 14 minutes of fumbling and editorializing.

The hosted audio clips from EQD are much better, and I feel the effect fills out more. https://www.earthquakerdevices.com/pyramids

3) I'm glad it's not another jet airplane whoosh box. I've got plenty of whoosh. I'd rather have weird over whoosh.

4) It sounds really metallic, springy, and cold in much of what I've heard---I'm completely onboard with this. :hobbes: This will be great with modular textures, sequences, and soundscapes. If they had tried to make a faithful BBD emulator, then I feel it would've sounded like an imitation and missed the mark, in the same way that faux tape emulators add too much artificial modulation. I'd rather it stand on its own, rather than be judged as an emulator.

5) It's going to be compared against the Starlight, because that's the flanger best-known for shaping options and S&H effects, but the Starlight was likely inspired by just taking phaser and synth features & applying them to flange. Pedals like the Empress Phaser have waveform selectors and rhythmic modes, so applying this to flangers is a fairly natural progression.

6) I'm not lovin' the borderline purple & green, with black knobs. It looks like it would be difficult to read in low-light settings. People gotta move on from the Joker palette.

7) Overall, I'm excited to experiment with one soon. I'm looking forward to injecting it into a lot of chains---

synth > reverb > phaser > Pyramids > delay/analog flanger/TC Mimiq/Keeley ADT

synth > delay > flanger #1 > Pyramids

synth > reverb > reverb > Pyramids

piano with arpeggiator > reverb > Pyramids > tape delay

string synth > analog chorus > Pyramids > multi-head delay

This demo was pretty interesting because it seemed like they made it at 1:00 AM and were ready to strangle each other.

But, the pedal looks, to me, like a Boss BF-2 with presets and some digital fuckery. :idk:
Seems cool and all, but I spent $40 on my BF-2, and I don't use flanger enough to justify spending $300 on one.

I really liked the bit in the EQD video that sounded like a Clusterflux, though.

4) If EQD can make a pedal like the Rainbow Machine not sound overly bright, I don't hear why they can't do the same with a digital flanger. :idk:

5) Is that what Brian Marshall said? :snax:

7) Please, inject with lots of white/pink/purple noise. :poke:

Perhaps they were consciously trying to steer it away from a tunnel effect. By making it a kind of new flanger/anti-flanger, that meant avoiding too much resonance or too much dullness.

As I said, I like that it doesn't sound like a BBD emulator. To get it to sound dull (warm), then they'd be trying to replicate a vintage flanger, which is aided by capacitors that have been darkening for 30 years. I've yet to hear anyone who has really perfected the art of mimicking aged parts, without going too far and making it sound overly dark or with a lot of artificial movement. Virtually every faux tape delay has this problem.

Looks pretty cool. I don’t think I’m a flanger dude but this is basically the kind of effect that makes me want a flanger. Or to BE a flanger dude.

Once again too, the only videos of effects I want to watch is Juan and Nick.

I find Nick and Juan's demos extremely boring and almost useless. They are entertaining but for actual purchases, I just can't base it on them. They do things way to whacky and Juan always plays a fretless or a P.

I'm not really hearing anything that's wowing me now. I like the idea, but I'm curious how much flange is used by most to justify the features. When I use flangers, I only use one sound. Maybe I'm abnormal?

I'm def curious about a true stereo flange that does many things. I gotta say though, the color scheme seems like an off/too contrasted version of the Fuzz Master General, and the design is boring. The knob distribution irks me, that plus maybe the box dimensions make it look squat and further confuses the whole look. Maybe it looks better in the real or I'm crazy, but for some reason I just think this is the ugliest EQD box ever.

I mean, it's exactly the same as the Avalanche Run V2 (granted, I don't like the V2's enclosure size). :idk:

Agreed on this.
With the AR, the design seems logical, it looks like mountains and clouds.
With this, the pyramid design just doesn't look right, to me. It's too busy right in the middle of the pedal.
