The Performance Thread
How do you guys put on a show? I really want to start playing out again, and I’m thinking about what kind of aesthetic and show I want to put on with my music.
Currently I’m thinking about making/buying a podium, putting some blacklights and neon on it, and create a cyber goth look to go with my synthwave?
In the past I’ve dressed up in costumes and had TVs playing clips of old horror movies.
What are some things you guys have done?

Re: The Performance Thread
Being shy and playing loud was my thing.
But if I ever go back to playing live, I'll go in a Starfleet uniform.

My general aesthetic is a dark stage with a few of those construction spotlights facing the amps and as much energy as possible. We play heavy mosh oriented music and I want the crowd to move as much as I do.

step 1: straw hat that covers your face
step 2: trench coat
step 3: fill a milk jug with water
step 4: walk around festivalgoers, drinking from your jug
that seems to build a lot of anticipation. after that, stage theatrics are really superfluous.

If I ever play out, I would project live footage of The Velvet Underground over me. Feel free to use that one if you want as I probably won't be playing live anytime soon.

Crazy lights, projectors, extreme fog, space samples...the usual but it can turn a small crappy venue into a real intense experience when combined with extreme volume

Classic Moody hxc band. So many musicians are content to stand their and stare.BoatRich wrote:My general aesthetic is a dark stage with a few of those construction spotlights facing the amps and as much energy as possible. I watch live videos of the chariot and try to pull off at least 50% of their energy.

Outstanding!!!!!
I was never good at live show theatrics, but I played guitar and sang in most bands so outside of that their isn't much room to do cool stuff.
We used to bring B&W Tvs and just have them play static or whatever we could tune in in the background, but that was about it.
I had a guitarist who used to think it was fun to kick me, but I thought it was less fun.

I’ve been trying to figure out the logistics of the projector for visuals. I’m debating between cheap, crappy projector on a screen, where it will look lofi by default because the projector sucks, or getting a little better projector and just blasting it on the wall.
Also, I think I would want to get a video synth but that’s a whole rabbit hole of it’s own.

could you project right onto your cabs and kick drum? not sure what type of jams you play, but that sounds cool to me, cheap projector right onto gear.
