I've read in some places that using plastic casings for DIY stuff is not recommended due to them not being shielded from interference. But I have to wonder why, then, are there quite a gaggle of mass-produced pedals in plastic housings that seem to work fine: Ibanez Soundtanks and the current slew of Behringer (copycat) pedals come immediately to mind.
Is this a myth? Does it depend on weather or not there will be an input or if an electric guitar will be used with the thing? Could aluminum foil be glued to the inside of the casing to help shield the guts? Is the real issue that all jacks be grounded properly to each other?
Please forgive if these are silly questions, but I don't know enough yet not to ask them!
Thanks in advance for any insight!

It’s really all in the grounding.
If properly done, the plastic works just as well as metal.
Now if you get into Faraday shields etc then it’s a whole different ball game.

I have enough trouble wit noise in metal cases as it is! but yeah, good grounding lways helps, but a bunch of wire always wants to act like a radio antenna, and it gets worse the more gain is in the circuit.
