Re: Super ultra high gain distortion like DOD Death Metal
There's lots of Rocktron distortions, but almost all of them seem to try to specifically be really smooth, tight, high gain amp style distortion. I could be wrong about that. You can certainly get some of the relatively recent ones like the Zombie and Metal Planet (something like that?) for probably around $50 used or maybe a little less.

Metal Master is awesome, I wish I had kept mine (especially after my quick check of prices just now). They are hm-2 based I think? Plus you could do the stereo out thing! The Uber Metal is also cool. I picked one up for $25 a couple months ago.hbombgraphics wrote:it won't get you there but you should try an arion metal master because they are flipping awesome
Try a line6 uber metal that thing was nutty and the gate was super useful
Metal Planet is very metalzone'ish. I had one for a bit. Sold it for maybe $30?Corey Y wrote:There's lots of Rocktron distortions, but almost all of them seem to try to specifically be really smooth, tight, high gain amp style distortion. Yeah as the above dudes mentioned, I think they fit the bill of trashy and cheap.
I have no idea what the eqs are like.

Digitech Death Metal is legit.
Is not Elements on high gain mode with LED clipping, everything maxed the answer though? It has way more gain than anything else I've played, and set up with everything dimed it should provide at least a 25db boost and should sound like a squealing unrecognisable pile of shit.

No idea how to do that, but I'd send it to somebody if they wanted to trace it.jrfox92 wrote:You should trace it.Ghost Hip wrote:TheSyle/Holowon Umiom is the first that comes to mind. They don't pop up that often and the company disappears for years at a time.

Someone should just use that dudes designs and give him some scratch for it because they are all really cool dirt pedals, but TheSyle/Holowon as a company never did too well. Also, every time I open up a Holowon/TheSyle pedal it looks worse put together than an the early Effector 13/Devi pedals.

Of the Pedals I have owned, it seems like the Deecetone Rat, G4 Big Muff, any good tone machine clone would have versatility and would take you where you want to go. Anything in the Shin-Ei family seems like it would be unwieldy and not as versatile as you would want.

Kayzer has lots of helpful videos to drain your bank account. Here are parts 1 and 2 of a relevant shootout. Digitech Death Metal and Elements are included.

Re: Super ultra high gain distortion like DOD Death Metal
Man, this thread has me kind of wanting to do that^ shootout type thing with all my distortions
I have something like 10-11 distortions but only use maybe 2-3 of them regularly.
Have you ever tried a Zoom Driver 5000? Harder to find than most of the other suggestions but they have a lot of options and tons of gain.
If Kylo Ren played metal he'd used the ZD 5000.

Re: Super ultra high gain distortion like DOD Death Metal
Haha--I had one of those for...ever
Got rid of it because I was too deep into ILFdirt and was never using the thing anymore. Yes to tons of gain, some interesting eq profiles (a couple pretty fonky).... I had a lot of fun with it before I "knew better." One thing I really like about it was it imparted this kind of phasey chewiness I associate with 4x12 cabs to my 2x10 Peavey Delta Blues....
